What does EMP grenade affect?

(Jimmy James) #1

EMP Grenade Description:

EMP Grenades temporarily disable enemy turrets, mines, and radars. They also slow down the progress of enemy Hacks and HE Charges. There is a Cooldown period between successive uses.

OK, “radars”? Does that mean Comms Hack? Like if I nail an Operative with an EMP Grenade who has an active Comms Hack it will temporarily disable it? If this is the case, does the time-out timer for Comms Hack continue to run down?

Also, I was in a game last night playing Terminal trying to hack the mainframe when I got killed and while waiting for some enemy newb to close in so I could Cortex Bomb him, I got hit with an EMP Grenade and I noticed my Cortex Bomb icon got one of those red circles with a line through it. Does that mean EMP Grenades also temporarily disables Cortex Bomb? I’d never seen that icon before.

EMP def disables cortex bomb - you see it rarely though.

EMP also knocks out radar - again, it’s pretty rare and not that effective (imho)…the s in radar could be a UK/US take on plural, or could be to indicate that it knocks out radar for whomever is hit by the EMP and not the radar of the entire team. I suspect that post coms hack, an EMP would knock out the coms hack for whomever was hit, but all non affected teammates would still have shiny red candy to S.A.D.

Oh I see, it disables your personal radar if you get hit by an EMP grenade. I should have had my cup of coffee before posting.

Also, I think these items should be added to the list of things EMP Grenade affects (if they are not already):

Satchel Charges (The charges use an electronic detonation device. Maybe in addition to the charges themselves being affected, the Soldier’s remote control detonator could also be temporarily disabled if he gets hit. Though he should still be able to place charges.)

Control Turret (Uses an electronic remote control device, temp disable the ability if Operative is hit.)

We’ll have to wait until Wednesday to see if EMP affects the following:

UAV

Field Regen Unit

Tactical Scanner

They slow the rate of hack boxes and explosives… great for the defending operative.

(wolfnemesis75) #5

They slow the bot down. Also slow HE Charge. EMP is very useful.

Yeah, the amount of times the team has been saved on CC by EMPing the bot or HE charge is priceless. Really the only reason why I even use Operative is to EMP every objective I can.

Easily the greatest use of the Operative, bar completing objectives.

oh wow, I never thought about the feild regen unit, that’s a good call JJ that could be useful knowlege. also the UAV but that was kind of expected… though here’s a thought a bit off topic, the UAV with be the first visable flying object in game in BRINK what do you think that will be like? in the screenshot it hovers low to the ground I wonder it you will pilot it FP and if it will go higher. I’m not sure what kind of sky box the game has except for the begining of CC where the bot can make you super jump.

why would EMP affect a med kit??? are bandages electrical?

(Spendlove) #9

From the rumblings I have heard, the UAV can’t fly like the drone in qwet does, it more sorts of hovers at a set height.

Next time you set up a hackbox or HE charge why not spend the extra time shielding it with a Faraday cage?

Alternatively: start using clockwork detenators in your HE charges.

I was assuming that from the beginning, simply because there are so many invisible walls for spectators…

Also, Exedore said we aren’t supposed to get onto the top of the plane in Refuel because the view kills the framerate. (I’ve seen some people on PS3 get on top of the plane in places, though I can’t do the jump myself. I can’t do half of the jumps they discover… like hopping off a tree in Resort to get to the second level…instead of using the kiosk.)

The field regen unit will be a small electronic device that medic can place on the ground to heal and help maintain a foothold when fighting
