what do you think is good strategy for all the maps?

The primary use of the rifle grenade, in my opinion, is to break whatever defense there is and clear the objective. If the defense happens to be mobile, oh well :D. Using it on everything is somewhat self defeating since you’ll run out of energy to actually plant any dynamite. You just have to judge it right. Until level 3 engineering, then you can go crazy.

Sniping is useful but rarely anyone does it properly. If I start writing about my CovOps tactics in detail, I’ll be here all night talking. Here’s a condensed version with a lot of omissions for brevity.

I always infiltrate as a CovOps. Sniping from behind the enemy is not only much easier, it drives them crazy. Beyond the frustration of trying to find you, if you can give them the impression that it’s a teammate, they might turn on each other. Everyone knows there are idiots out there that shoots teammates, what is easier to believe? A covops snuck in and hit you without you seeing even a trace of him or that friendly useless sniper over there rushing to get back to Sniper Hill just shot you for no reason. Even if they don’t start tk’ing each other, it’s hilarious to watch them take cover and then run around after they keep getting hit. You just know they’re going “WTF WTF WTF WTF”.

One last thing, even though it’s fun, I still keep my priorities straight. These are all assuming I’m in disguise and inside the enemy base.

  1. Aid engineers / people with objective
    a) If TNT is planted at an objective, guard it OR defend allies escaping with objective OR pick up objective if close to safety
    b) Open teamdoors / blow barriers (Depot gates, Battery generator)
    c) Throw smoke to cover overwhelmed teammates (smoke does not give you away)
    d) If practical, defend and escort engineers that have made it to the enemies’ rear areas (Fueldepot center building, Battery gun controls, Oasis upper hallways, etc)
  2. Spot mines
  3. Keep their CP down. It really does have an effect, just ask your local SpamOps.
  4. Take out any effective mortars, leave the newbie mortars alone since that draws attention to yourself and wastes a satchel that could be used for other objectives
  5. Take out any stationary MG’s around the primary objective
  6. Take out any mobile/stationary MG’s by the frontlines
  7. Steal the objective if the enemy is weakened.
  8. Snipe if a good hidden spot is available. Note, the water tower on Fueldepot is the absolute stupidest place to snipe from. The idea is to remain out of sight, not in clear view on one of the tallest areas of the map.

An indirect objective is to try to keep tabs on large enemy movements. This gives an unmeasurable benefit to mortar soldiers who can see where the enemy is gathering and WHEN (go read my guide that I posted a while ago on using the mortar). There really isn’t any action you can do to accomplish other than to just stay undercover.

Ugh, the huge broken up quoting game, I hate that.

Annecdotal evidence about your lucky shots is useless. I’ve killed 5 with a rifle grenade, so what? We’re talking about team strategy and the effectiveness of weapons in your typical situation. I don’t know about you but I don’t usually find 8 enemies running at me grouped as closely as they can manage.

Anyway, you are still missing the point entirely. The panzerfaust will never ever equal the killing power of the mortar nor the defensive bonus of the MG42. It is simply not possible. Not with the firing delay, not with the normal situation a panzerfaust soldier along the frontlines finds himself in. Your typical shot with the panzer will only kill a couple of guys, if that. No one groups up when they fight. They spread out, a lot. Anything else is just luck and luck is something I won’t rely on for victory. I’d rather count on skill and strategy.

Also, all of my special cases were known defensive road blocks or targets. The bank never moves around the map. I can find the west bunker on battery right where I always do. I never mentioned mobile MG42’s, which are actually more easily cleared with rifle grenades (instant fire, “bouncy” shots).

I’ve started a new thread for the panzerfaust debate so we can un-hijack this thread and get back to real strategy.

You can find it here. plug Go vote in the poll! /plug

Anyway, carry on.
