What do you think about phantom's guns?

Not gonna make this a poll because I’m a scrub.

So yeah, I was playing the other day, as phantom, and there were couple other phantoms on the other side. Killed one of them with kek a couple times and he becomes saltier than the dead sea. How only peasant phantoms use their guns and such. Soon after I shot the other phantom, he started qqing about how every phantom vs phantom should automatically be melee fight. Not gonna lose my sleep over that though, he’s got the guns and i get more kills with those than his sword so i use them, but i was just thinking, is this how widely spread way of thinking, that phantom shouldn’t have his guns?

Nah, Phantom used to only have a pistol during Alpha stages but I bet it didn’t work well so that’s why in his return in Open Beta they gave him SMGs as well. Right now in his current state he’s ehhh OK. In long distance obviously you should use your SMG and than if you are low on health or see a crowd of enemies you put on cloak and take an alternative route to shoot them from another side unexpectedly, juking them out. During close range in a crowd, that’s when you use your katana, especially if you use your cloak to your advantage by sneaking up on them.

Phantom need those otherwise the devs would just change him to BANZAI charging soldier who can toggle extra armor and with no cloak

In his current state, I believe that Phantom needs his smg’s. Now if he were to be changed to a soundless invisibility, then I’d remove them in favour of automatic pistols, just like Sparks has.

In effect, his weapons are the way to go, once you get spotted and are too out of reach for an effective melee kill. Since that happens quite often with the whining noise of the shield (I’ve been sneaking up on people from behind without invisibility as otherwise I get heard), you need to use your primaries.

Now as fun as a Phantom duel can be with only melee, it is really up to the situation. Do you have a Phantom with the added range and chopper augments on a katana, or are you holding a stiletto only. Are you low life, or is the opposing Phantom? Is your mag full or almost empty? All things considered, a Phantom duel can go either way. In then end, you use your best means for victory. Only a fool would except any Phantom to use only his melee…

I hate the katana only playstyle. In fact I hate the idea of melee only in a game that rewards high accuracy in gun fight. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a test build where phantom is running a machine pistol and semi auto pistol, like sparks and just buff his cloak a little more. Drop the shield down or completely remove it and make him require skill to use. That’s just my idea though and people will disagree, but I do agree with OP phantom currently has arguably the best guns in the game why not use them.

I always abide by the Phantom VS Phantom sword duel honor system. It’s actually pretty fun.

The only way Phantoms stay alive is by having proper judgement on when it’s time to put the sword away and do work. Yes sword kills are a rush, and I’ve had a few chain kills work out on groups of enemies that have already been softened up. However more often than not diving in for the sword kill in a crowded area/well traveled path means you get shot in the back. That being said god do I love stabbing healers.
