What do u think SD would have to do....
They can save Brink with more clever marketing, streams of cheap DLC and such like that. It’s all a matter of Price vs. (Perceived) Value. Even if a product is considered a failure, if you market it well enough, you can easily turn it around. It’s marketing 101. I’ve seen worse products flipped. Brink isn’t lost.
Will it happen? If SD could help it, sure. But it’s not their choice anymore.
Splash Damage doesn’t need to “save” Brink. From their perspective there’s nothing to save. It works fine for them. People buy it, they get paid. Brink works perfectly. They wipe their backsides on our requests for support, or even acknowledgement and then walk off smiling. Welcome to Splash Damage.

Enjoy your stay.
sadly, it will more and likely be another console game… we may never see another true, PC MP
again from SD…
I have the PS3 version and it’s so buggy that I’ve had to delete the game data and reinstall the game twice. Re-download and reinstall the DLC twice in a month. The game’s bugs are so catastrophic that my brand new PS3 has already had to rebuild its HD database. I think their console days are numbered, or better yet over. It’s one thing when the game is lackluster. It’s a bit more damaging to your image when it’s both lackluster and completely busted.
Why do you actually feel the need to come into this thread stating what you feel is the obvious? You think it’s cool or something?
I think there are some well constructed posts in here but thanks for trying to get fuel on the flames by baiting out for derailing this thread.

CHEERS,

Sorry everyone. I was in a foul mood yesterday and there was no reason for me to jump to the conclusion that this was a hater thread. I apologized to VG_JUNKY through private message but I wanted to make a public apology for posting in haste.

Props for that apology

Unfortunately I don’t see the game turning around anymore. I still love it but it has become extremely hard finding games. I end up having to play on mostly European servers from Brazil which leaves me with near 300 ping. :frowning:

Micro-transactions with subscriber hybrid, also make the game free to play. You’ve now turned a game, charming as it is, with downs syndrome into something serviceable with longevity.

We need an “average per match per Player XP counter” running in the background. Based on this the players should be alloted to each faction. So that not only the amount of players per faction is the same(+/- one player) but the collective “XP per match” would be as similar as possible in every faction too. Meaning the teams are as equal as possible. Because otherwise, even if both sides have the same amount of players, when there are 2-3 clan players with headsets in one faction it can be as frustrating as it is when a full human team plays against you, 2 other guys and 5 bots.

I hate micro-transactions since to me it feels like you never really “own” the game. It feels like you have to buy it piece by piece, eventually paying the same, if not more, then it would cost at standard retail prices.

Also maybe break relations with Bethesda as your publisher, they have the worse customer service ever, shoo they can’t seem to keep the stat site in order as well.
Yes it was, although tongue in cheek. : P
As for id, they seem pretty excited about their future projects.
Dunno about doom4 mp but it would be interesting nonetheless.

I don’t attribute lack of intelligence to the platform…
If youre inclined to prefer gaming sitting on a beanbag, twiddling your thumbs on a controller while sipping diet coke with a slice of lemon, then youre probably not going to care about specific features, that pc gamers expect. This gets translated as - console players are dumb. They aren’t, they just dont give a crap.

So essentially, developers can save money on the console versions by not going all out on the features. Instead they can spend a bit to hype up the game with billboards on buildings, and all that wonderful stuff.

I’m wondering where people get that image from though. I’m a serious Socom player though. (Or was. My clan leader went Jerk on EVERYONE) and that game takes MUCH more attention to play, and probably some of the best (If not the best) game that gives rewards for teamwork. By keeping the skill ceiling low it actually helps with the tactics considerably. It is still much higher than CoD though.

They may have to do a few things. They would probably have to aim at the PC skill based community, I don’t know where they would aim at the consoles. They’d just have to consider taking advantage of the low skill ceiling based on a controller and make sure they can get it to work. Like Socom 2 did. Or Halo (I don’t like it, but I’ll give them points) So many games fail in the translation it’s embarrassing. Although I will admit it is MUCH easier to make it go PC-> Console correctly than Console -> PC. And why sell it two years later? All platforms require different balancing so it’s best to start on them early.

I’m waiting for the 1.5 Splash Damage patch for Brink like Quakewars n__n

What image? The dumbed down image… or the one I used, the casual cbfed learning a game image?
I have no doubt in my mind there are plenty “dedicated” console gamers, who actually really enjoy learning the games mechanics.
But while they may be plenty, they are the minority. Based on what Ive seen, the majority prefer to look like a “badass” than to play like one. They would rather have cool canned animations, that creates this illusion… than a game filled with mechanics that forces them to prove their dominance.
Sports games are like this. They focus on stuff like- tatoos, piercings, headbands, shoes… you name it. They believe the average console player cares way more about playing an authentic looking Kobe/Lebron/Durant than using that player in a skilled manner. Theres nothing wrong with any of that btw - thats just how casual gaming is…

As for why sell ETQW2 two years later on console? That entire post was tongue in cheek - I wasnt serious. There are design aspects that are related to this point however. I’ll let you figure it out.
