Free Steam weekends for PC
Seconded. If it were not for the free steam weekend, I probably would have never bought Brink.

this wont help, nothing can save the PC version…
just have to wait and see what their next title is. sadly, it will more and likely be another console game… we may never see another true, PC MP
again from SD…
long live W:ET & ETQW…
Rework weapon handling, ability progress system, team boost interactions and both speed up add more player interaction with the SMART system and then package it in f2p system. According to Tribes: Ascend devs, reworking their previous game and going f2p worked for their initially unsuccessful class based shooter, Global Agenda, and they’re now still adding new content. Also including significant incentives to reaquire original purchasers goes w/o saying.
Either make Brink successful in terms of lifespan and not just initial sales or bury the IP because otherwise it’ll be an albatross on future projects and SD, even if Brink 2 gameplay was the second coming of Wolf ET or otherwise completely awesome.
1.Uninstall Brink from all systems, and delete any trace of it.
2.Refuse to make any sequals of it.
3.Demote those who were in charge of designing the game, and give them the position of coffee maker
4.Think of people who are in touch with what gamers like
5.Call Kevin Cloud
6.Tell him you’re thinking about making a new game, and you would like his “creative direction”
7.Release new game on PC and call it ET:QW2
8.2 years later, offer the game to a respected developer to port to console
9.Hype up the console port like theres no tomorrow
10.Profit
To be brutally honest they need to ask themselves how they released the game with such compromised values. When they have the answer to that they need to move onto the next game and fecking execute those values to a AAA quality. This IMO was the root cause for Brink being a lesser product.
For Brink now I’d say they’d be wasting their valuable time fighting to resuscitate it beyond releasing an SDK and letting others work on it, but we’re pretty sure that’s not going to happen either. So yes, free weekends, lower price point etc to milk what they can and plough it into the next project.

LOL. A little harsh, I’m not sure id are necessarily in a great position any more either. Lets see if they make a Doom4 MP.
Another thinly-disguise hater thread. Strange that SD never shuts these down.

Junky loves Brink. He has 243 hours logged in the game.

It can’t suck though. Console players aren’t idiots you know. Or at least most of us aren’t.
What do u think SD would have to do in order to turn it ALL around at this point?
Don’t say “they should hav made it not ****”
I MEAN NOW what would they have to do to get MORE ppl plyn Brink more regularly?
PS this question is relavent to all the platforms ( plz say which 1 u are referring to )
Alot of hard work in some key areas including game refinement, balancing, content, AND ADVERTISING.
First I would like to explain why I said advertising. The game had a solid build-up to release, but in order to rekindle the interest from gamers new ad campaigns would have to be ran; these ad campaigns would need to stress the fixes and refinement done to Brink.
Next, there would have to be extra polish to the game to make what glimmers now, shine with success. Along with this polishing would of course come balancing, balancing of the weapons, abilities, spawn locations, and spawn timers.
Finally, there would be content. Content is what drives all triple A titles, give players enough content to explore and enjoy for an extensive amount of time and they would gladly wait and purchase future downloadable content packs.
Sadly, I believe Brink is on it’s last leg. If you’re not enjoying Brink in it’s current state your not going to enjoy it in it’s future state, it’s that simple. They may be doing a huge amount of weapon tweaks, which are soon to some (so I hear), but that’s not going to revitalize a game many people have abandoned. Personally I welcome the weapon tweaks because I have enjoyed the game since the beginning. I know Brink will be staying in my collection because it plays differently and looks differently than most other games out there. Sure I’ll buy and enjoy all the big games coming this fall/winter, but I’ll still try to squeeze some Brink.
For PC, nothing. People already accepted they got burned and are not looking back. I believe they could release it for free, today and it would not matter.
It might live on, on consoles, but PC, it just doesn’t matter what they do now. No one cares.

Yes it was, although tongue in cheek. : P
As for id, they seem pretty excited about their future projects.
Dunno about doom4 mp but it would be interesting nonetheless.

I don’t attribute lack of intelligence to the platform…
If youre inclined to prefer gaming sitting on a beanbag, twiddling your thumbs on a controller while sipping diet coke with a slice of lemon, then youre probably not going to care about specific features, that pc gamers expect. This gets translated as - console players are dumb. They aren’t, they just dont give a crap.
So essentially, developers can save money on the console versions by not going all out on the features. Instead they can spend a bit to hype up the game with billboards on buildings, and all that wonderful stuff.
: P
Just as side note not aimed at you or other console players… Idiots very rarely perceive themselves as idiots
There were already a couple of good ideas, so I would like some more detail stuff.
If there is a next free weekend, for gods sake have tech support available! I still dont get, why there was noone in the tech forum reading or answering the posts. That was a complete fail, when there were people unable to run the game and no professional help (or community posters).
So what would help this game? Get a list with standard features and implement them.
Fix the bugs. The large and the small ones! Any play tester bothered to play operative!?!?
Im not sure if the gameplay is actually that bad, but the current state of the rest is so raw and unpolished that the frustration moments arise in a much too high frequency.
It’s too late to do anything to salvage it as a commercial product. Those who put down money on it and can’t find anyone to play with just have to accept that they got burned. When the game can’t manage to get a couple hundred people playing during prime time on a weekend, you know it’s done. We went from 15,000+ during the free weekend to 200 in about 3 weeks time.
The only thing Splash Damage could do at this point to at least make it so the game is playable to people who DID pay for it is make it Free to Play. Put all the customization stuff (character customization and maybe even visual weapon mods) behind a paywall but make the base game free for everyone to play. Of course make it so people who bought the retail game have all that stuff unlocked as normal. At least then there would be a constant base of a few thousand people playing since there will always be some people willing to try out free stuff.
PC
1st: Make the game F2P
2nd: Release a SDK
3rd: Abandon the PC version and focus only on the consoles.
4th: Port the maps that will be created on the PC version to the consoles and sell them for a decent prize
NOT GONNA HAPPEN
and use DLCs to sell new weapons or suits or abilities to ppl.
There’s not much fighting going on. There are a few snide remarks and people showing their displeasure with their treatment but otherwise it’s been a fairly normal day in forumland in here.
And I don’t think Badman needs to step in, or has anything to say at this juncture. No offence to him but unless there’s something the company wants to communicate on the subject there’s nothing he can say.
They’re doing weapon tweaks, he’s told us this. Beyond that the future is uncertain and maybe this thread will help them decide on a direction.
My experience with the Splash Damage title Brink hasn’t been very good. My requests for support, or even acknowledgement that the game exists from either Bethesda or Splash Damage have gone wholly ignored.
Frankly, I don’t think it will matter how super awesome their next title is. I won’t be supporting this company’s future endeavors and from the looks of this and other forums I am certain I am not alone. It would appear that Splash Damage has alienated every customer they’ve ever had.
This was not the case for Tribes 2 which, upon release, was riddled with gameplay issues, bugs and a host of other problems. It was poorly received by an angry and dedicated community and underwent several revisions for years after release. Sweeping changes were made to the game months after release. It’s now regarded as one of the greatest PC games of all time.
They can save Brink with more clever marketing, streams of cheap DLC and such like that. It’s all a matter of Price vs. (Perceived) Value. Even if a product is considered a failure, if you market it well enough, you can easily turn it around. It’s marketing 101. I’ve seen worse products flipped. Brink isn’t lost.
Will it happen? If SD could help it, sure. But it’s not their choice anymore.
Splash Damage doesn’t need to “save” Brink. From their perspective there’s nothing to save. It works fine for them. People buy it, they get paid. Brink works perfectly. They wipe their backsides on our requests for support, or even acknowledgement and then walk off smiling. Welcome to Splash Damage.
Enjoy your stay.

I have the PS3 version and it’s so buggy that I’ve had to delete the game data and reinstall the game twice. Re-download and reinstall the DLC twice in a month. The game’s bugs are so catastrophic that my brand new PS3 has already had to rebuild its HD database. I think their console days are numbered, or better yet over. It’s one thing when the game is lackluster. It’s a bit more damaging to your image when it’s both lackluster and completely busted.
