What do old ET players think of dirty bomb?

(Jarppa) #21

It’s lacking a lot of features that made ET great;

  • flag spawns
  • forward spawns
  • proper doc runs (steal from enemy base and secure mid map)
  • touch steal/return/secure objectives (doc runs and spawn flags)
  • select-able spawns
  • meaningful side objectives (excludes MG builds)
  • command posts

And the more simple things like;

  • ability to pick up weapons
  • uni steals
  • helmets
  • player boosts

Nice recap @prophetNP, couldn’t agree more. I would really like to see at least most of these at the final game when it’s out… or even included to some expansion pack… anything really

So i see alot of people complain about “cant reload when sprinting” FYI this can be activated in the game options. Its already existing but sadly its turned off by default. So check the options again guys

(Szakalot) #23

I think you are referring to ‘allow sprinting to cancel reload’.

There is an ability to be able to reload while sprinting, so if you really needed: you can have it.

Personally I don’t see the need for it, reloading is pretty fast in DB, and if you know how to long jump to your advantage, merc speed isnt an issue either

(MarSouls) #24

Helmets would be gladly accepted

They are so dead set against incorporating most of the above features simply because of a “this isn’t ET” and a “revolutionary” attitude.

Removing all of those great features and not substituting them with something “revolutionary” is really hurting DB.

It’s important to keep an open mind with regard to “revolutionary” features, but it’s also important to keep an open mind that some past things worked quite well and DB’s popularity and replay ability could greatly benefit from them.

tldr; “revolutionary”

Some of the map objectives are from ET. Such as the one where you blow up the wall, and the other where you repair the tank (Oasis & Goldrush).

As far as the game goes, I say it’s moving along rather nicely. Of course it’s not as good as ET and I don’t expect it to be. Enemy Territory is and always will be a one of a kind. You can’t replicate that. If they made another ET, they would only be hurting themselves. We would have extremely high expectations and would most likely be disappointed when it released.

I don’t really mind the Iron Sights. I just want balance between hip fire and ADS. Of course hip fire seems better because it’s what we’ve come to know and love. But at long range, we need to have a reason to aim down sight rather than hip fire.

I think the maps are fun (kind of…). OK they could be better but this game has a lot of room to improve so I would just sit back, provide feedback, and hope that the devs listen.

I think the maps are too small, but I’m a huge Quake Wars fan, so that might be why. It just seems theres really no room for flanking on most maps

I absolutely LOVED Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I played it on quite a high level on my main server. We had our clan fighting off against other clans, it was great!

Even though it was a World War 2 shooter, it was so unique. Absolutely free to play with a great and healthy community. But what stood out of the most for me were the maps and their objectives. Each and every map was unique, not only to the world, but even to each other within the game.

I haven’t played Dirty Bomb yet so my verdict cannot be confirmed, however, I have a great feeling about the small, yet objective-focused maps in Dirty Bomb. And what’s also very important to me is how the game feels. This may sound weird, but it has to feel good when you gun your opponent down. And to be honest, that looks absolutely amazing in Dirty Bomb! Can’t wait to get in and perhaps shoot some videos.

Wolf: ET and ET: QW were two of my favorite games that I’ve ever played. Sadly, this doesn’t compare with either. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. This game has much more in common with BRINK.

E.T. stay on my heart forever, and i try a lot of fps after but never find the fun of wolf, but DB gonna be my future lovely FPS, sure not like ET but it smell like it. I Cross my fingers for having some fun mod and lot of map (oasis, goldrush  ).

And sorry for my bad english-> froggy style \o/

(Nail) #31

outside of minor graphics looks, I see nothing in common with Brink, gameplay is way different

(GhosteyGhost) #32

I’m still playing ET but I really want to play Dirty bomb! I am waiting half a year for beta key but still didn’t get it… I am so excited!

Nothing will ever beat ET. Been playing this game and still run ET servers to this day. I just hope that Dirty Bomb has the success that ET had and still has? Look’s promising at the moment to say the least.

Going on a previous post by Jarppa.

Quote :

  1. Server binaries
  2. Campaign mode
  3. Similar XP leveling as Enemy Territory had/has (in campaign mode)

Along these lines if we are able to alter server settings when the game comes out would make the game even more appealing to server owners and players. Just to get a unique server running is just like the old days of owning a successful ET server.

Been hanging out for any news with $$$ in the pocket ready for the servers, can’t wait.
