What can i do?

(zenmuse) #1

So i play on an Asus G73JH laptop which has a ATI HD 5870 video card in it… Which i just learned yesterday cannot run updated drivers unless they are released by Asus (which apparently doesn’t happen). I learned this the hard way, after trying to install the latest drivers and constantly getting blue screens. It took me half the day to learn this.

I can’t get the game to start because i get an Opengl error message. Several other people that i’ve read posts from get the same message.

The most updated driver available to me is 8.683

Before i get the obligatory “you shouldn’t game on a laptop” BS reply, there is a good reason i play on a laptop. I’m in the military, and because of what i do, i move around a lot. If i want to game, i have to have a laptop… and the laptop i currently have has never given me any issues with games, even at max settings (the laptop came out in the middle of last year, so it’s not terribly old).

So if there is anyone that know’s what i can do to update my drivers or fix this problem so i can play Brink (i don’t care if it’s on the lowest settings), please help.

download the 11.4 drivers (or try with the 11.5a release again, 11.4 should work too)
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

download latest driver sweeper
http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/

wouldnt hurt to run der directx webupdater

(no you won’t install the bind bar crap)

  • uninstall the running amd/ati drivers
  • reboot
  • install / run driver sweeper
  • choose “AMD - Display” and remove everything
  • reboot
  • install the 11.4 drivers (or 11.5a)
  • reboot
  • pray to allah

if your still having problems with the original ati drivers, try the same procedure with omega
