What can be done to increase the player base?

I mean at best this game maxes 4,000 or so users at its peak a day per steam sales database.

I’ve had a blast with it ever since the Humble deal. I’ve put 180 hrs into this game since I paid $1 on February 18. I’ve been averaging a new merc every 5 days or so and only have Redeye, Bushwhacker (and Aimee) to purchase.

But I see the same people all the time. I play in US East only and it’s annoying when all the servers are full and I spent a few mins trying to get in one. Also seeing the same players all the time is strange.

How is this game even viable for the devs to be even spending time on? Seems like it’ll die if it continues this way.

Have a good reputation.
This game has had some moments where it just makes the public eye think this game is just a whole lot of bad.
Some moments include:

  • Anticheat scanning for everything (one of my friends said that he wouldn’t play just because of this)
  • Phantom nerf
  • Angry joe’s review

I watched the Angry Joe rant last night and it just became about his gambling problem. I spent $1 only on this game and I have great load outs from drops. You seriously just have to play more and know the efficient ways to earn credits fast. On a good weekend day I can earn 15-20K in a day.

Spring Cleaning event I cleared all my irons and got some nice Bronze - including 383 for Sparks (on the 3rd attempt haha).

I’ve also gotten 4 Golds from regular case drops. Several silvers too.

Yes, but the video gave the audience a negative vibe towards the game, which is why I added it up there.

Concurrent players is not the whole playerbase. It’s a slice of how many players are on server at that moment. People always look at SteamDB then ignore the very next number that specifies how many people have played the game in the last few weeks. DB hasn’t had any content updates in quite some time and it’s still getting around 200,000 unique players and that number skyrockets when new content hits. It’s also in beta still and hasn’t been advertised anywhere since the open beta launch almost a year ago. And also there is a misconception that if a game doesn’t have the same amount of players as CS:GO it’s dead/not viable/everyone is fleeing.

That’s a hell of a player base for a game still in beta and hasn’t quite had the advertising push it will most likely get on full release when all the content/features are in.

I agree with @Amerika, People seem to think this game has had its full release when it hasn’t. This game is still in Beta and 200,000 player base for Beta is amazing in my opinion.
This game hasn’t been full force pushed into advertising, and from what i can tell the only advertising has basically been done by the community to my knowledge (such as Youtubers, Twitch, and other online sources.)

Just spread the word. Tell your friends about DB, and tell them to tell about DB to their other friends.

This is one of the things I actually find quite charming about the current state of Dirty Bomb, and it will be sad to see it go once the game goes ballistic. I hope it does of course, SD and the crew deserve an incredible payoff for the years of entertainment they’ve given me and many others, and they’ve created an amazing game with Dirty Bomb.

Especially with the motley bunch I’m playing with at the moment, since we frequent the EU Stopwatch Min 10 servers we usually see familiar players crop up now and then, and a bit of lighthearted heckling and v57-ing always puts a smile on my face, it’s how I met most of them in the first place. Community servers would hopefully preserve this, but for now I enjoy the current state of things in EU land. You’re not quite just a drop in the bucket, there’s a roaming community at the moment, and that’s pretty nice. You won’t get that in CS:GOAWAY unless you hit the third party servers.

Honestly, for such a game with current fps standards (cods, bfs, cs:go…), the audience is not bad. If you look at steam’s top 100, dirty bomb has stayed in it since the open beta release last june. Which is decent enough to give the game some potential. A true worrying and significant sign (tho not based on numbers) would be seeing dirty bomb sinking below the steam’s top 100.

Nevertheless, I think the playerbase could dramatically improve if they suddenly decide to do some promotion again (with proper game improvements coming with it accordingly). It worked well when they released dome, so there’s no reason it won’t be successful again. And they absolutely must make people try the game again. Some significant parts of the original audience stopped playing the game (founders, closed alpha players…), just as people who joined during the open beta. Most of them know there is potential for this game. If they come back, that’d a great proof of progress.

I use quickjoin because I’m too lazy to navigate the server browser. I rarely see the same people, and when I do, it’s only one or two in the same server for less than 2-3 games. I say this as someone who has over 1000 hours on db, so I think this game is doing well for a beta.

(FalC_16) #11

Angry Joe needs to fix his views and make it publicly.

Also the game needs more promotion and maybe some commercials or banners on the internetz.

Now the question is, is the game ever going to come out of beta? Maybe staying in beta just like other big titles is a good way… if it comes out though, promotion will be crucial.

(Sinfulsebastian) #12

Best way to increase the playerbase would be to cede some of the control of the game to the playerbase in form of allowing them to rent their own servers and develop mods/alternative gamemodes/new maps for the game. The modding communities would increase the numbers on their own, not to mention the numbers the mods and new maps would bring in.

More advertisements.

(FUNNYBLACKMAN) #14

Advertisements, more Dirty Bomb YouTubers, etc…Oh, and of course trading and economy, skins and stuff like that.
