What are your thoughts on a theater mode(view your previous gameplay)

(wolfnemesis75) #21

I have nothing against it. Just saying it is less a priority most days, and I’d rather have other content over a theater mode. That’s all. Not hating on it!

(wolfnemesis75) #22

Brink does have a spectator mode. So I’d think it could be used similarly in conjunction with a capture card to get other player views, right? That’s why I think when a game is being designed, theater modes are not as important as compared to other content: like DLC. That’s the trend I see in other games.

Personally I think its a great idea, it would also be good if VOIP and ingame chat could be optional extras to the recording that the player could determine.

Not sure why its not in Brink, I can’t see any harm in it.

Well demo recording was built into the idtech3 engine, so RtCW, W:ET, CoD, Q3, QL all had demo recording functionality from the get go as they were all built in idtech3. Idtech4 had it as well, but in a poorer fashion to begin with, it was renderdemos that were only possible with Doom 3 which were pretty crap tbh, Quake 4 then added netdemos and SD embraced and implemented them in a better capacity in ETQW. Since they’ve built on a heavily modied idtech4 ETQW build, demo recording is in Brink as well… it’s just been disabled as it was causing issues.

So they might fix it? Is there any hope of it being on console.

(crazyfoolish) #26

Was there a delay between ETQW release and the addition of demo recording being possible?

(DarkangelUK) #27

No, you could always record demos in ETQW.

(wolfnemesis75) #28

With a Theater mode you can certainly replay and use it to figure out how to break through choke points or plot out strategies and see areas where you could improve. Title update down the road?

(tokamak) #29

I think it’s absolutely essential and I’m rather annoyed that Brink didn’t come with it from the outset. Making cool screenshots and movies were one of the most fun things you can do in the game. It incites you to play insane games try different things and see how spectacular it gets.

I really, really want it.

That is not SD’s style.
Have you played their latest, “Brink”
The future is no demos, no first person.
Hop on the train.

=[

Not SD’s style? If you take their previous games into account they’re 2 for 1 on full demo support. ETQW went as far as incorporating freecam by default as well, and probably did the best implementation of demos in any idtech4 game to date. Brink DID have demo support, but 2 bugs caused it to be disabled for now. So really they’re 2.5 for 0.5… hopefully they’ll get demo recording working again.

The sad thing is the amount of ETQW stuff that seems to have been thrown out the window and not incorporated into Brink, but well we’re not gonna get any answers with regards to things like that, so no point dwelling upon them.

I know ETQW and ET had these, that’s was my point.
I couldn’t make a comment like that without knowing this.

Failed at workable spectator options on release
and failed to fix these things on the first patch.

They aren’t part of SD games anymore clearly.
it sucks but it’s something we’ll have to get used to.

This would definitely be a massively effective incentive to continue playing since we have yet to get the DLC or stats site. Also, for level 20 characters the end of the match is so anti-climactic. Your earned XP is zero’d out and you have nothing to show for your effort at the end of each match.

Something should be there. A movie or theater mode would be awesome. Even Team Fortress 2 has a fully working demo recording and editing utility!

My point is that this has been a one-off so far, if their next game has the same issues, then we can start calling it a pattern and something we’ll have to ‘get used to’. And they clearly ARE part of the games, did you miss part that’s been said a few times now where demo recording was in Brink, but disabled due to a couple of severe bugs?

20 Level character is a finished character(Until DLC). Time to start a new one! Trust me. Once you start working on your second character, you will decide you need at least 6 characters. The game pretty much prods you towards doing just that! I am having more fun creating several builds depending how I want to play. Each character so far is unique; so it gives me a fresh way of playing the game.
