What are your favorite maps in Brink now that we have the Agents of Change?

My all-time favorite maps in no particular order in Brink so far are:
Container City (As Security)
Security Tower (As either Security or Resistance)
Labs (As either S or R)
Aquarium

What I like about Container City: I love the flow of the map and feeling you get as you progress through the level. There is a high sense of drama at each point, especially at the first objective where you know that any mistake in tactics can prove devastating. I like that.

Security Tower is still the pinnacle of Brink for me. The mighty Security Tower. The escort portions are my favorite objective by far in Brink, so its no coincidence that three escort maps show up on my list! This map has had many of the most epic struggles that I’ve faced in Brink. Large open areas on the street level, and multiple levels to climb. Tons of flank opportunities. Another upward struggle. Winning at the last moment when all seemed lost, is a totally awesome feeling.

Labs. A great map. This map really has a great beauty and visuals. WIth the multiple locations one can plant, it makes both attacking and defending hectic and intense. The second portion with the Engineering fix is usually an Epic battle. I’ve been beat by really good teams on this that map that lock down the room or constantly push towards the repair with relentless aggression. I’ve been on the winning side a few times when we were the ones that locked down the room. The last part is like the last part of CC: a mad-dash to freedom.

Aquarium. Love the upper-ward struggle and tug-a-war feel, almost like you’re climbing up towards an ever increasing difficulty level. Reminds me of another mode I play in another game where the enemies just keep spawning and getting progressively more difficult or like the frantic intensity of No Fighting In The War Room on Vet. You literally get the agent to daylight after freeing him from the darkness of his cell. Sometimes it can be about small victories. Get him as far as you can. Other times, you can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. I think that’s cool.

I prefer attacking and being the aggressor the most out of all maps.

Container City, as long as Security doesn’t screw up the first objective. Its a little unforgiving at that point, but after that I think it is the most offensively biased map in the game. After Security passes the gate, its hard to stop them until they get to the courier objective, as long they have enough time. It has good flow, and lots of objectives.

Ever see the HBO show Band of Brothers? I feel like that at the part where you escort the bot after its dropped by the crane. You are going deep into Resistance territory, through a seedy section of their domain. There are nasty looking niches with couches and broken doorways and slanted walls. It really gives you that sense that you’re somewhere you don’t belong, or want to be as Security. Let’s get the hell out of here as fast as we can. I don’t much like the look of this place.

I just played another series of maps, since a long time
People always voted for container city - I have (had) no idea why

I rarely get to the end of the map (on either sides). I mean, or I get spawnkilled by resistance as sec, or I spawnkill sec as resistance. The first part of the map is truly a bottleneck (well there are more, but the beginning is the hardest part).
Perhaps I should give it some more tries to share the love everyone seems to have with CC.

As for the poll question, my fave at this time is ‘Resort’. It has a general nice feel (great ambience + magic skybox … it reminds me of vacation time in Spain, hehe). Well, all in all - - - ALL Brink maps are a true piece of art. I sometimes take the time to peek up and down, left and right to enjoy all the fancy details the maps have. Maybe the graphics aren’t all that superb, but there is a high level of detail. I remember I read somewhere (I think it was from Ed Stern’s lecture) that SD gave level of detail in maps a high priority, and that every little inch a player can see must have functional details (such as texts on walls … etc).
The two new maps are great as well

Brink for me personally, is played best at some occasions. It’s not addictive, but very enjoyable when you haven’t played it for a while

I think Resort is the worst map. It’s basically one long tunnel with very limited digression.

Its interesting to note that Aquarium and Sec Tow are both escort either an Agent or Nechayef, but Security Tower has Indestructible Spawn Turrets at the finish line where you have to get Nechayef to cross. Aquarium has no such Turrets at the end, in fact, there is two entry points and one has a command post and provides a flank directly at the finish line! This adds weight to Aquarium’s finish and can also make it bitterly harsh: I’ve lost a match against a really good team with The Agent literally two steps from the boat. There is even cover for the Resistance should they get in-trenched. The entire time you play this map, you know in the back of your mind, that there’s a very real chance if you don’t take care of business, that the hardest part may indeed be the final homestretch. Many times we won on this map without time remaining, walking The Agent across to the boat in the overtime phase.

I have to say the AOC maps are bad. Labs has the issue of too many balconies favoring the defense even more. Just sit behind one and never die because the enemy can’t hit you with sprayguns. Both of the maps have the initial rush thing. If you get there first, you have the upper hand as there is a big room and small corridors leading from each spawn. This chokepoint based map design is clearly bad.
Another bad thing is merging paths for both teams, or somewhat spiraling paths. In labs for example, you as resistance on last obj run towards the sub, but right behind you enemies can spawn and backrape you as if the indistinguishable enemies wasn’t bad, you can’t tell even by which direction one is running. This adds the final nail to the COD-ish FFA-style 1-sec kill randomness.

(shagileo) #8

Gotta admit, map balancing isn’t all that in Brink
Too many chokepoints, indeed

(wolfnemesis75) #9

Labs is climbing in votes. Arguably the best map in the game now? Looks awesome. Multiple HE plant locations. Tough to gage where the enemy is planing to mount an assault or defense. A mad-dash to victory at the end. If you ain’t fast, you don’t get to ride in the sub. Only thing that would’ve made this map better would be if the Sub got blown up if you fail. Like when Locke blew up the Submarine in Lost. BOOOM!

Yeah, Labs is my new fav. Funny considering I hated it so much initially. But now I love the opportunities for both sides to conquer.

Still keep CC and Sec Tower close to my heart, tho. The flow of those maps are what I play this game for!

(wolfnemesis75) #11

I like the flanks on the second part of Labs. You can jump up to a balcony and fight the Resistance right there who try to jump down, or you can go around through the side door, up the stairs and catch them unawares. Resistance can come around a few different routes. There is a lot of cover for Resistance when they jump down. COol map.

My favorite maps, no particular order;

I play exclusively from Security… Can’t help it, I prefer the way they look and their overall goals. To me, they’re just doing their jobs and trying to keep **** together. At least, that’s MY motivation.

  • Founder’s Tower: I can’t help but love this entire map. It’s pretty fairly balanced on both sides - it can be a breeze to defend or a breeze to assault, and I’ve had the closest games on this map. I always love the sheer variety and amount in objectives. I was pleasantly surprised to have to blow up two objectives. It struck me as more realistic, because all the other maps have a single-use of an objective at a time - NEVER two of the same consecutively. I don’t care for the aesthetic design once IN the tower (why isn’t the tower finished…? How long has it been in that state?) but the overall design/layout is superb, as far as I’m concerned. BONUS POINTS: As an operative specialist, I LOVE having objectives for that class (though my same character can do either Engineer, Soldier OR Operative). It makes me feel important knowing it’s the first one two, which is MY eyes, as far as my experience with the game goes, is usually the most important one.

  • Refuel: Again, among the most balanced and varied maps provided Resistance is able to get the infamous Hydro. Aside from the annoyingly hilarious and then annoying again instructions (did you GET THE HYDRO!? THEY DROPPED THE HYDRO!!! RETURN THE HYDRO!), this game always gives me some of the most intense games. Plus it’s a relatively long map, like Founder’s Tower. This game could take you 15 minutes, or an entire hour. I love that. And again, I love having an objective to do later on in the mission as an Operative. :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Terminal: This is mostly just because I love hacking again… The map isn’t particularly interesting or anything and the mission itself is ALWAYS short (when on Security, if you’re winning through this map it will be a breeze), but I can’t help it. That and it’s really under-played, so it’s always refreshing to play here. There are too many other maps that are CONSTANTLY voted for (Container City, Security Tower and Labs). I usually reason it’s because they’re easy to defend, usually. = / Which bugs me.

  • Aquarium: This map probably gives me the most use out of the Mossington (my favorite gun aside from my Euston and Bulpdaun) and that second escort bit can be INTENSE. The map gets steadily more and more difficult for security and winning on this map is always satisfying. That end-game feeling and pure excitement alone bring it up to my top maps.

I infer this from being able to find an open room by selecting Terminal as the map before searching. The glass bugs me: its hard to tell where the glass is. Also, it is too congested in the terminal room. I’d be interested to find out how often this map is chosen compared to the others. I’ve had some memorable games on this map, and played with a lot of cool people. And many who love this map. So, I am not trying to take away from it. I could talk about the maps all day; that’s how cool they are to me.

(L00fah) #14

I’m confused now. Do you like it or dislike it? haha!

I love it BECAUSE it isn’t played much. As I said, it adds some much needed variety to the typical playlist so I’m always happy to get some votes for that map… That and the hacking. Haha!
It isn’t my FAVORITE, but it’s up there.

(L00fah) #16

That’s what confused me.
That typically means you like it the least of all. <<;

But I understand now haha.
Yeah, I’ve been hosting community games for the few members on the Bethesda forums and we’ve been filling up like crazy, so I usually try to start maps either there or Shipyard.

(Commander_Keen) #17

Honestly these forums are better than the bethsoft forums because the Skyrim and Fallout noise isn’t here

(tokamak) #18

You mean the Skyrim fallout

(wolfnemesis75) #19

Looks like Shipyard is getting no love. That map is a pain especially in the Campaign on Hard. Its a great looking map, just very tough to get it done without a good team. Similar to most maps, but this one you have to be aggressive. Interesting, this one gets a lot less love.

My favs are playing offense on Security Tower, Aquarium & Container City…though I feel like I’ve spent 4000 hours repairing that damn bot at this point. Rushing the 1st objective = WIN (usually).

I despise Reactor.
