Well-made terrain

Hello,

I was wondering on how to make a well-looking terrain to Enemy Territory. First of all, I don’t know if/how I can reach such an effect in Easygen. So look at the picture below:

link

You can see there is a caulked wall on the side outside the map. I only took a part of SupplyDepot2 to show you what I mean. Inside there is a texture of typical rock… hmm. And then my question is: how to make such a “wall” where one side stays straight (this one caulked -> in plumb-line) and the other inside the map having shapes? Really, tried some tutorials, Dersaidin’s rocks modifying, but unfortunately I have no clue how to do it.

As always, be nice to help me. Thanks!

Greetings,
Igloo

See Socks’ rockwall corridors and Socks’ rockwall details tutorials. d3coy’s technique might be based on it, though I’m not sure. The Fueldump tunnel is supposedly made with this technique.

EDIT: Actually, the backside doesn’t need to be straight anyway.

I will check it out asap, thanks kamikazee.

Good if so, but it might be a problem to caulk with shaped terrain… maybe not.

Igloo

Yeah, but that’s more for texturing.

the thing you want can be done, i’ve never used easygen tho…
i use nem’s mega 3d terrain generator which has never failed me

Mazdaplz How do you use Nemesis mega terrain generator, iknow this, but it export quake map, no quake 3 map, but i heard that terrain on castle_attack was made with this
How do you export working terrain?
I try to export terrain without textures and import into Radiant and see nothing?
How do you make working terrain in this nemesis mega terrain generator?
And where you download it?

very mutch thank you

i think that’s the link.

you need to play with the buttons and deform the polys with the mouse, you can move around it like in radiant with the arrows i think. when youre finished you can export it as a heightmap. this will produce a BMP file,
you need to convert this file to 8bit image, i think you can do this in photoshop with setting indexed, or you can do it in mspaint with the grayscale option.

then go to plugins in radiant, gtkgensurf, ground surface,

select “from bitmap” on the first screen.
go to bitmap tab and load your image, if your terrain is upside down you can map the colors 255 to 0 and 0 to 255, to make it taller map 255 to 20000 ;), then just go to extents and change the number 8 from the number of subdivisions you want (keep in mind it will affect the bsp compile times and fps) and select it’s extents. from 512 -512 to -512 512
i think, that will produce a square terrain of 1024² units

Just to keep you guys up-to-date: I am still working on the FATE terrain editor… I know that I didn’t publish a release for more than a year now… frigging real life :frowning:
However, I am still putting some development efforts into it and there slowly evolves the next release (version 0.14), which I will present to you when it’s done

"how to make such a “wall” where one side stays straight and the other inside the map having shapes? "

I think he’s asking how to shape only one face at a time.
Hit V and you’ll get the individual vertices points that you can manipulate.
You can select multiple brushes, then hit V and the corners will be one vertex (point) that affects both brushes.
