Weird patchy snow giving me greif

(Doc) #1

I have some snow, which is nice, but it is only falling in certain areas depending on where the player is. It’s like (major guess) in some portals its snowing, but others it isn’t, even if I’m looking right at them. (I’ve only got a vague idea how this all works, so please excuse me if I’ve confused something.)

It’s similar to those rainclouds in cartoons that follow people around - the snow only falls is small areas. Depending on which way you’re facing it might be snowing, or it might be clear.

Any ideas?

Don’t you hate it when you plan to post something and you think to yourself “I must include this important bit of information”, and then when you do post you completely forget about it?

My tracemap is fine, yet my snowfall is not. :???:

No-one has any clue?

Can you post your atmosphere key value?

I’ve figured it out. Tracemap hates any brush at z=0. It uses value of 0 to determine where it WON’T have any evironmental effects generated, so if you have legitimate positions where the top of the highest brush is at z=0 enviro effects will not fall there. Simple solution - select everything and move them upwards a bit.
For the record, tracemap also hates negative z’s - it just takes the absolute, which is wrong. So make sure the tops of the highest brush anywhere in your maps are > 0, else snow won’t fall.
