weird outcome when grouping brushes

(camel) #1

hi,

i get really weird stuff when grouping brushes :banana:
tried both N->doubleclick on func_group
||
right-mouse-click on one of the selected brushes and func->func_group

result includes:

  1. some of the selected brushes turn from black to blue
    some stay black - selecting 1 brush does not select all the others :???:

  2. all turn blue - still not grouped :eek3:

  3. some brushes turn blue and get duplicated on same place - still ungrouped :angry:

i mean ive used grouping before and without it i really cant build anything usefull … :banghead:

anyone else experienced that kind of behaviour ?

also when i want to build a door or any moving object out of many brushes ( like a door with a handle and maybe a picture on it lol ) … how would i group those things - not with func_group right ? :???:

To select an entity with multiple brushes, use alt-click. The behavior used to be that clicking would select the whole thing. Personally, I like the old way better. You can’t select more than one group at a time with alt-click. There is no other grouping function in Radiant that I know of. Another shortcoming, in my opinion.

To build an entity out of multiple brushes, create all the brushes, select them all, and choose whatever entity you want from the right click menu. A door, for example, would be a func_door. You do not use func_group. func_group is an entity, and a brush can not belong to more than one entity.

you can select multiple groups when pressing ctrl+alt+click

aaaha … ok CTRL-ALT works now thanks … but i still have weird results when grouping :wink: but i can live with that as long as i can select grouped brushes now … CTRL-ALT … would never have figured that lol :slight_smile: :clap: :moo: :drink:

ya the shortcut list is quite long, you can find them all in the radiant manual

Yep, I have to agree with you the old method of selecting grouped brushes was far better and I had alot of arguments with coders about this one point. It all started because some GTK coder decided he wanted the brush selection different because terrains use “func_groups” so he changed it. :disgust: Luckly an over ride option was included in the preferences for people like me.

The default is Shift+LeftClick which will select any brush regardless if it is in a func_group or not. The Ctrl+Shift+LeftClick will select all of the func_group brushes.

To change it back to how it originally worked then …

  • Go to the menu - Edit/Preferences or press P.
  • Select the “3D View” option on the left and on the right is the option “Use paint-select in camera view”
  • The default is just “Yes”
  • Change it to say “Yes (Classic Key Setup)”
  • Press OK and it will instantly change in the editor.

So Shift+LeftClick will select one brush or if part of a func_group will select all brushes. While Ctrl+Shift+LeftClick will select individual brushes in func_groups. The paint select option still works a treat, especially useful for terrain brush selection. TBH this way should be the default …
