Weekly Faves - Who is your favourite Engineer, and why?

#1

Seeing as how the Medic question last week was so popular, I’ve decided to start a new one this week for Engineers.

Who is your favourite Engineer?

  • Bushwhacker
  • Fletcher
  • Proxy
  • Turtle

As always, I’ll start…

Proxy. She’s DB’s poster girl, she’s quick, and she has an attitude. I like Shotgun loadouts (much to their controversy), and she’s an objective completionist. Plant or defuse the C4, and stick a thermo-nuclear pancake on it for good measure.

…or if you want to be really mean, hurl pancakes and use them offensively.

Her main drawback is that she’s quite squishy- skilled snipers, well-placed explosives and aware enemies can shut her down pretty easily.

Proxy definitely, I played a lot Bushwhacker before due to his torret, which is good absolutely and especially with right augments.

Proxy is my choice here and it is because she is a fast and deadly merc, having the nice shotgun and proxy mines, simplifies completing the objectives and to balanced it all up I guess the HP bar is big downside, but it is alright to be honest.

ftw

I’ve always been a big fan of Fletcher and I’m really sad that he’s nerfed.

Turtle is cool too.

Bushwhacker is my favorite. I hate all the engineers tbh, but i think i hate bushwhacker the least. the turret isn’t overpowered, but you definitely have to respect it or it will melt your face off. The one thing i really hate about bushwhacker is that he has the same HP as fletcher, but lower movement speed. an inexplicable shortcoming in terms of game balance.

Turtle: i don’t think one-way bullet shields belong in first person shooters at all, especially not dirty bomb

Proxy: pancakes and shotguns, ugh. The merc to play if you can’t aim and love stomping noobs who don’t know better than walking directly into obvious mines. The great equalizer, lots of tools to compensate for your own lack of skill :stuck_out_tongue:

Fletcher: i’d call him the actual first assault/other hybrid introduced to the game(before javelin and guardian) as his combat effectiveness is honestly way too high compared to other engineers. Also, shotguns. ugh. He’s not really what i’d call overpowered anymore, but i’d definitely say he’s overtuned and outclasses all the other engineer options except for turtle, who i hear is(or at least used to be) banned by default in pugs and competitive play.

Looks like all the closet Proxy fans are coming out of the woodwork.

Turtle is my favorite. When I play defense, I usually adopt a more conservative stance and stay close to the EV, or C4 plant zone. Turtle is very effective when used this way at the first objective of Bridge, and the last objective of Underground. I can go for extremely long times without dying and shutting down anyone who comes near.

The most hilarious thing is when someone rushes me and tries to flank around the shield, but then I just walk through it and shoot them from the other side. None shall pass.

Honestly I find the engineers in general kinda boring, but I’d probably go with proxy just cause I like fast squishy mercs.

Fletcher is my second, he’s still pretty fast, but his weapons are kinda eh. Never been a fan of shotguns, and the blish always feels weird to me on him, despite maining blish on aura. Plus his stickies still feel clunky. Too many buttons to use them since I’m more used to using abilities with the number keys rather than the quick selection buttons, and stickies still frequently disappear when switching to the detonator too early, even though they’ve pretty much already left your hand.

Bush is my third, he’s not bad, but his weapons are pretty generic so he’s nothing special to play as. The turret being a hands off ability as well doesn’t help that. Not really a big fan of the turret in general either, how it still glows even after you’ve destroyed it, or how you can reclaim it once it’s been destroyed but only if it doesn’t magically fall through the floor. Or hell, just how boring and static it is to fight against. Ultimately he’s pretty boring to play as and fight against imo, and it doesn’t help now that there are so many clueless new players playing him.

Turtle is probably my least favourite. He’s basically the same as bush, same boring character, weapons and ability, a meh personality, etc. His shield’s deploy time is so high that it makes it pretty unsatisfying to use, and then once it is up it usually only takes a few seconds for someone to land a grenade behind it and leave you with a massive cooldown. Never been a big fan of shields in PVP games either though, they usually feel pretty out of place, especially in a fast game like dirty bomb

In terms of playstyle, Fletcher. I play the best as him and he has some great first and second gen BL loadouts that I like. Really, really fun to play. The Anhuld is also the only shotgun I can tolerate and find fun to run with on a rare occasion.

In terms of personality and concept, and maybe practicality, I like Bushwhacker. He’s a close second behind Fletcher for me, and it depends on the map. Unfortunately I’m nowhere near as good with Bush as I am Fletch. Maybe I oughta stick with Bush’s BL loadouts as well for consistency.

Turtle is pretty cool and a situational pick for me. I don’t dislike him at all. I’m not a fan of most of his loadouts, however, which is why I don’t play him as often.

Proxy is a welder and she’s got a cool concept. My positive opinions about her end there.

Relatable, but for a different reason. I bind my movements to ESDF and have my primary abilities on G and my secondary abilities on a mouse button. Fragger is now the only Merc I can’t play and I’m fine with that haha. I can’t cook a grenade (holding G) while also attempting to strafe around with ESDF. Whatever. I’ll live with it.

Bushwacker because his turret has much better aim than me.

((Pos2/3)) #10

Bushwacker ofc, smartest engi in the class, kick others arse with redneck-y voice and well-placed turret as a second in command. Can guard many places, turning a zone into a fortress. And above all, this merc could carry a game tho kind of merc requires healthy brain

(Your worst knifemare.) #11

Bushys the only engi whos ability can both do damage and not be used by the enemy to kill your team.

Plus some solid weapon choices.

Loved using proximity mines in Goldeneye on the 64, so naturally my favourite is Proxy. I enjoy sneaking behind enemy lines and planting mines near enemy spawn then coming back to the action by shooting enemies in the back while they’re occupied with my teammates. They then respawn and trigger the mines, slowing them down giving my team extra time to do whatever. Also like her plucky personality. :cake_proxy:

Proxy is my number one merc, in all the classes. And no, I don’t use a shotgun, I actually use her SMG, I actually find it very hard to aim with a shotgun. And why not love proxy? She has pancakes.

(kopyright) #14

Bushwacker. Love the Blish, love the turret, though it really needs some more HP or a better way of placing it.

(Mr.Cuddlesworth) #15

I think its default lock on time should be buffed. It’s a machine, it should react faster than what it does now.
