Weapon Weight System

I plan on posting this over at Steam forums as well, so hope they actually listen to the community.

What this game desperately needs is a weapon weight system. I guess the easiest example would be Killing Floor, where each weapon raises your weight meter a certain amount(e.g. in the case of Brink for example, a Kross would toss you up 2kgs or something similar). After a certain point you can’t equip or carry certain weapons based on weapon combinations.

Basically, without going into a winded explanation, what this would do in terms of Brink’s gameplay is not allow players to have a sniper rifle Primary and an SMG secondary, for example. There are pistols in this game, and they are hardly seen as secondaries due to the overwhelming choice of SMGs, Magnums, and even a Sniper Rifle as a secondary weapon.

Put a weapon weight system in place, and you’ll have to fall back to a pistol with that Gerund, Euston, or Rokstedi instead of…“hey look, another fully automatic weapon!” It would add a new dynamic, and get a healthy choice of weaponry cycling with thought put into what weapon you want to go in the field with.

You could even adjust the weight allowance based on body archetype: light being able to carry the least, heavy the most, etc. It would fit in with the way the body archetypes were designed.

Thumbs up, +rep, keep it bumped, etc. to get this thread noticed. I think that’s all this game really needs to make it a bit more balanced.

Don’t the body archtypes already put this into function? I mean the entire point of giving up the parkour ability of a light to play medium is so you can use 2 higher tier weapons.

No offense but, IMO this would not work at all in Brink. There are bodytypes.

actually this is pretty darn awesome, that is if each individual weapon had a different weight. and attachments brought there own weight also.

Like say the kross with a round drum weighed more then the stock kross and the stock kross didn’t weigh as much as the tampa for example.

or say the high-capacity magazine weighted 1 kg more then the stock for say

or the front grip weighed .5 kg but that would ONLY matter if another attachment like a silencer or the muzzle break were to be added onto the same exact weapon. thus making the weapon 1 kg more.

this type of system would be a dynamic to this game if thought out right :).

This wouldn’t work at all. If anything they should just limit you if you pick a sniper as your primary. Get rid of the secondary sniper. I really have no idea what they were thinking when they were explaining these loadouts. Sniper with an smg as your secondary?

Some things about this game just leave me clueless.

No, the current archetypes don’t do what I am suggesting. I think you misunderstood what I was asking.

Commander Cody has the right idea of what I put forward. Basically, have weights to weapons and a maximum weight allowance depending on body type as well. So a Barnett would have a 8 weapon weight stat, the Tampa would have a 3 weapon weight stat, and a Sea Eagle with a 2 Weapon Weight. Lights can only carry up to 10, so they wouldn’t be able to get a Barnett AND a Tampa.

The numbers are purely made up, Splash Damage would ultimate figure out the stats if this ever was implemented, obviously.

I’m at a loss as to why this wouldn’t work, Codine…you go on to agree with me in a way, by stating a Sniper as your primary and an SMG as your secondary is bogus.

Worst Idea EVER!!!

Please just stop trying to make this game like some other game you also enjoy, way too many like you out there who want to change the core features of the game because you want something that your other fav game has.

They already have everything balanced about as well as any game i have ever played from launch, everything you add or dont add has an effect to everything but not to a degree that any 1 set has a unfair advantage or disadvantage.

Basically you can play exactly the way YOU want to play with out feeling like the other guy has something over you that gives him an edge. For the most part other then changing sizes or characters IN GAME this game gives you the ability to adapt equally to every situation.

PLEASE EVERYONE DONT SUPPORT THIS DOUCHEBAGGERY!!!

I agree with the OP, if you are a heavy you should be able to carry say… more than 2 weapons if they are light enough.
