Weapon playing animation(s) suggestion

(SereneFlight) #1

I’ve been playing more or less KF2 and in that game the character plays with the weapon when you hit the reload button and the weapon is already fully loaded… … … and I love it. There’s just this certain satisfaction seeing your character fiddling with the weapon which I don’t really get with this weapon inspection thingy I wanna touch dem weapons.
Took a screenshot while playing around with new weapons that just came out and thought if this would be nice in DB as well… possibly… would it completely out of place… not really since it’s not “arrr sirious gaem”… would it really affect the gameplay… nope… let’s make a thread~

The problem is difference between PvP and PvE natures of this games. This “gun-checking” animations is amazing in KF2, but you have some free time between waves to play them, but in DB you mostly pull out your gun to shoot bad guys; also, how much times more weapons in DB? 5? 6? And all this huge animation work just to be played when you bored? There’s much more important works to do, to be honest.

I’m aware that devs have a lot of more important stuff to work on, obviously (like optimization ffs SD… and breaking the game little by little with every update…), and I’ve never really got why people keep playing this “devs have better things to do” card… especially when it comes to DB because even SD keep doing a lot of stuff nobody wanted or asked for.

Then the question is… why did they make weapon inspection thingy? Was it something the community couldn’t live without so they whined, whined and whined until SD finally made it?
…I think we all know the answer for that… and for the question “have SD spent their time well in the first place?” spoiler: nope

Actually atm KF2 has more weapons (video there was done short after the release and haven’t been updated).

Well currently the KF2 has 26 weapon and 6 differend kind of grenades.

Also latest updated added 4 new weapons and 1 grenade.

Total 30 weapons and 7 grenades.
Oh wait i forgot starting pistol. 31 weapons.
They all also have their own animations and “checking” animations.

Currently dirty bomb has 33 weapons. (not counting abilities and their weapons)

Currently very similar number, in future both games will have more weapons.
But it would be cool to have similar “cheking” animations that varie between weapons.

@omegaskorpion
I didn’t counted 'em, just guessed.
This don’t change the fact that this is a shitload of animation work with no actual output. Many of man-hours for “I bored, let’s play with gun”. Many of man-hours that could be used for much, much more productive work.

Because I totally said “make this happen now” : P … obviously SD should finish the game first.
I feel it’s rather ridiculous to play the card you played when person doesn’t go “devs should focus on this, NOW”.

well its hard to say what time they used to make it.
If animation team had nothing to do they propably used that time to make them.

Or they did them just to make the guns look better when you can check the while shooting freaks. I mean, the dual revolver spinning animation is just so fun to do in middle of shooting (and since they dont interupt other animation you can start shooting in the middle of the spinning)

Make it an interruptible animation, and sure add it in.

If the animation team had time to add in an inspection animation, why not a playful idle animation or something of the sort.
