Weapon Icon

I’m making a few mods and a map for the Firehouse-ET server and I had a question about the weapon icons. This is more of an artistry question than anything else.

After creating the image it draws the background of the image around the icon. The mod is a throwing a fireball rather than a grenade. I applied the texture with the necessary shader after modelling a simple sphere as the ball. Then I put in the panzerfaust trail instead of the grenade trail and made it black.

Now the only thing I have to do is the weapon icon which is displayed on the bottom right corner of the screen. I don’t know how to specify the background of the image as translucent. It’ll draw the icon and then the rest of the black (or white on my subsequent tries) image around it.

Anyone know how to get Photoshop to do this? If I just cut out and delete the background, it simply draws a white square where the background was.

you need to create a new channel as Alpha1 and save ur image as a 32 bit TGA. in the alpha chanle all white pixels will be totaly visiable and black will be transparent. shades of grey offer differnt levels of transparency

if you are replacing the grenade image buy using a higher rating pk3 name then you just need to save the image with the same name as the old one. if this is a new yo are adding to the game you need to create a .shader file in a scripts folder to make use of the alpha channel

Thanks for the quick reply. I made sure that the .pk3 was referenced after pak0 since I didn’t want to have to explain the in’s and out’s of the .weap to my partner on the project.

The alpha channel worked perfectly, and I used the original image name in order to bypass the fuss with the shader.

Again thanks for your help!
