Weapon damage

(ZedLXI) #1

It worries me that it will take “around half a clip to take down an enemy if they’re not evading” in this game. I find there’s a certain pace and gravitas that higher bullet damage brings to a game. It makes the guns seem more real and, there for, the world too. So I was wondering if there’s been any talk of a “hardcore” mode or anything like it? Although I can well believe that the game is now very much designed around the idea of a more halo like damage, it would be nice to have the option. And halo always has the excuse that the guys getting shot are wearing armour.

Edit: Changed quote. It is now correct.

It’s designed around more Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars damage… Splash Damages previous games. This isn’t a realistic shooter, which should be obvious, but there hasn’t been anything announced about hardcore mode either way.

When I say real I don’t mean realism. I think I should instead have said immersive. And a point about that old school Enemy Territory kind of damage model is it doesn’t seem to work on consoles. Or at least I can’t think of an example where it has.

In Halo you need quite a few hits to take down a player, or so I’ve heard.

By reducing the damage required for a kill zedLXI, it turns more into a campfest.
And typically in an objective based game, the developers want to encourage players to go out and help the team. Its a double edged sword though, because the increase in damage required to kill someone - means that players need to actually track a moving target.

I dont know if you have ever played Enemy territory Quake wars, but from watching gameplay vids, seems to have similar killing speed to that.

Which is awesome

By the sounds of things, even more than Brink. But, as I was saying before, in Halo you’re wearing site loads of armour. It really is more about immersion than gameplay.

I see your point. Maybe a hardcore mode really just cant work in this game. But if it can at all I would be happy to see it. Even if its just for certain game types. Or is there just the one? I was never clear on that.

BTW, dose any one know if the shotguns will be a one hit kill at point-blank?

Im pretty sure they said there were no one shot kill weapons, however a heavy’s shotgun thats been considerably buffed could possibly kill an unbuffed light in one?

(ZedLXI) #9

See, to me, that’s kind of a game breaker. I’ve never played and enjoined a multi-player game where you cant one shot someone with a shotty.

(DarkangelUK) #10

In Halo you need an entire clip to take 1 enemy down, you need to burst the shield then bleed the health.

The gameplay videos you’ve seen of Brink are all body shots. I’m sorry to say, but you’re gonna need to up your aim in Brink and go for the head. In W:ET it was possible to kill 3 enemies with 1 clip if your aim was good enough, it takes roughly 6 or 7 bullets to the head to kill someone, and obviously more to the body.

(ZedLXI) #11

I’ve just rewatched some gameplay vids for this game. I’ve realised I’m probably complaining about nothing. Well at least if the bullet damage is still similar to what it was then. I must admit I’m still miffed about the shotty though.

Just pretend everyone is wearing armor, problem solved

They are living on the Ark with limited resources. Because there are no lead ore deposits readily available, they have had to adjust their weaponry. The guns use smaller caliber rounds than we are used to, and the ammunition for said guns is made of a cheap, readily available synthetic material that does not have the stopping power of lead. That is why it takes so many shots to take down unarmored targets.

Your immersion has been restored. Have a good day.

Won’t kill. Will incap.

(madoule) #14

oh darn this forum is full of important info. there’s been recently a post about exactly those, basically saying: no weapon is a OHK but sum buffed guns actually could mean a OHK…

(ZedLXI) #15

One hit incapacitation seams all right.

(Crytiqal) #16

It takes 3-4 bullets to the head to kill someone in W:ET

For all intents and purposes its the same thing.

kill = put him into an incapacitated state.
gib = make it so he can’t be revived from that state.

For instance, as far as k/d you don’t have to gib him for it to count as a kill.

ergo, there are no one hit incapacitations.

hey gaiz, I’m just going to put this here.

(ZedLXI) #19

Thanks for clearing that up BioSnark. It seams i have nothing at all to worry about.
