Weapon Customization and Camo -

(throwback8) #1

Hi all. I’m new to the forums and from looking around, the existing members seem to be very helpful. First of all I would like to say I have been looking forward to Brink since I first heard about it over a year ago. The team and class focused gameplay really appeals to me and one of the first multiplayer games I really got into was TFC(Team Fortress Classic). I simply cannot wait to pickup my copy of what looks like an inventive and just plain unique shooter on May 10th.
That said, I have a few things I’ve been wondering that haven’t been specified completely in all the videos I have watched. I understand the game has an in depth weapon customization system. -What is the depth of possibilities and combinations when it comes to weapons?
-Also, will we be able to customize the appearance(weapon skin/camo) for all of our weapons? If so, have they stated the ammount of skins?

Thanks in advance, and I can't wait to see you all on the battlefield come May 10th. :penguin:

There are multiple options (4 or more) for each of (at least) the following:

  • Sights,
  • Barrel attachments,
  • Underbarrel attachments (grips and things of that nature—I don’t BELIEVE there are underbarrel GLs)
  • Magazine types

Camo, however, is not in.

Thanks alot. That is quite interesting that they would go so in depth with customization and not allow you to make each weapon your own in terms of color or camo. I swear in one of the videos I saw what looked like a yellow splatter pattern on one of the guns. Not a game killer just a bit dissapointing.
EDIT After watching choir of guns again I am definitely seeing different designs on certain weapons. Even what looked like zebra camo. Perhaps this is how the gun will be by default?

The guns do HAVE skins. We’re not just talking about totally stock weapons, especially for the Resistance. It’s just not customizable.

To be honest, if I have to pick between more attachments and more skins, more attachments pretty much always will win.

(throwback8) #5

You know what, the fact that they have skins at all is enough for me. I am with you 100%, the weapon customization looks amazing, and I would much rather have more attachments than be able to customize the looks of the gun. Thanks for the info, can’t wait to get my hands on this game.

As long as there’s no diamond-encrusted frags (as is in Army of Two), I’m open for anything.

MatthiasK75 pointed out to me earlier today that in “The Basics” you can see an under-barrel bayonet around 3:25 when the guy reloads his AR. Its a black steel knife. Didn’t notice it before he pointed it out, and to be honest I didn’t know that they even had bayonets in the game. =o

Good catch. The more I see of this game the more I am impressed. It seems splash damage knows how to create an excellent online game from reading the reviews of ETQW and RTCW:Enemy Territory. The combinations of different things seem endless.

thanks :stuck_out_tongue:

anyway, i noticed bayonettes a long time ago in the screens on the character customization gallery, and everyone on the beth forums ignored me, im glad they are still around though

(throwback8) #10

I think thats a really cool idea. I wonder if it is somehow incorperated into the melee combat or if the melee strike will be the same no matter the gun or bayonette attachments.

(Linsolv) #11

It probably does knife damage when using an AR.

(throwback8) #12

Ahhhh, that would make sense! I like the fact that you trade off damage when meleeing with weapons normally. Then if you choose to sacrifice the firepower to get up close, your knife does more melee damage. Awesome.

The guns look and sound different depending on faction, but have identical stats.

I’m looking for the bayonet in The Basics video and I can’t find it, despite you giving the time. I see a guy using a revive syringe, and he has a Rhett. The Rhett seems to have a flashlight or something on it, but I don’t see him reload it and I don’t see a bayonet on it.

3:35. He mis-spoke, I guess. Right when she’s saying “move more than you shoot.” You see a guy with a Kross, and then white-out, and then fade in to a guy reloading. If you freeze-frame during that animation, you can see a Bowie-looking knife.

As said, there are no skins for you to choose from, but every gun has 2 versions, Ressistance (banged up and attachments are improvised) and Security (shiny, polished and all araound fancy) and different firing sounds.
The zebra camo is standard Security weapon skin, badman confirmed it.
I’m pretty sure there are more than 4 attachment options.
Note that every attachment has it’s pro and con.
Drum mag: more ammo, slower reload
Acog sight: more precise aiming, slower ADS time
Tactical grip: better accuracy, slower draw time
This is speculations 'bout the cons, but you get the picture.

(Linsolv) #18

I thought they were saying the zebra camo was standard for the Resistance version of the Maximus?

And, no, Based on what we’ve been told, it can be assumed that the big difference between attachments is weight, which affects switch speed—basically, a medium-weight weapon (say, a Rhett) that’s totally loaded with attachments might take as long as a heavy-weight weapon (say, a Maximus MG) that has no attachments.

Things could’ve changed though.

It seems to have more affects.

Lower damge most likely because of the silencer (but still same range).
Equip und Reload Speed is obvious, dunno what atachment causes the lower accuracy.

Thanks alot all. That really cleared things up for me. I think that it is great that resistance weapons depict the despair and poverty they have to deal with. The fact that each side has a different weapon skin is enough for me, seeing as the extensive weapon customization seems like it’s going to be executed so well. Thanks for the pics bull, it seems just switching attachments will be enough aesthetic change to give each of my weapons a more personal feel.
