Now that the weapon balancing update has been out in the wild for a while on all platforms, we wanted to give you a place where you can share your thoughts on Brink’s weapons and any balancing adjustments you feel should be made to them.
Please post any balancing feedback you’ve got about Brink’s weapons there - we’ll be keeping a close eye on the threads posted in there and take them into account for future netvar tweaks and game updates. The more popular a suggestion is, the higher the chance of it making it into the game.
Appreciate the sentiment/intent (SD) guys. I hope you can wade through all the “make my guns better, make their guns worse” threads though…but seriously…thanks guys…this is a cool step and much appreciated.
Badman, I think its awesome that you guys pay attention to the forums, and even go as far as to listen to the community for feedback. But this is a double edge sword. People are going to make good suggestions and bad ones. Please don’t let the suggestions drive you guys into making changes for the worst, even if its the majority making those suggestions
Anti-pragmatism—> just because the majority says 2+2 is 5 don’t make it so…
BadMan, accept my Friend Request in game and I’ll be happy to go over some of the Off-Balancing of the Smg’s and Pistols.
The problem with balance in this game is the huge amount of customization for a gun, ultimately there is one combination that’s better than every other combinations. On some guns this makes the difference between OP and Sub-par.
For example,
Tampa - Adjusted Iron Sight and Front Grip
Willl beat
Carb-9 - Drum Mag, Front Grip, Muzzle Break
Up Close
and Beat
Bulpdaun - Extended Mag, Front Grip, Muzzle Break
At ADS from a distance (burst fire on Tampa)
Any other form of the gun makes it pretty much Under-Powered…

This has already happened in Brink. I was quite amused when I noticed it, in-game.
grabs popcorn and waits for ezmoders to realize the newest easy mode
As much as I would love the gunplay to feel like past ET games, don’t you guys see this as just a little hard to do in Brink, seeing as there are a lot more weapons, and they all need to feel different somehow?
Yea making it like ET would be impractical as there are lot of guns. However, SD can reduce spread and make bullets go where you aim…especially AR hip firing in short bursts .
My theory is, if they decrease spread on one gun, they’ll have to decrease it on all. If “gun A” has great has great spread, recoil, etc. then Guns B through Q will need to feel similar, or else 1) - feel the wrath of the community that the weapons are “unbalanced,” and 2) - they will go unused since gun A feels so right, thus inevitably resulting in 24 weapons that all feel the same.
Somehow, they need to balance it in such a way that every weapon is a viable choice, while still keeping them all different and I don’t know if that is even possible.
The amount of guns shouldn’t matter in the least. ETQW for example had an excellent variety of guns in different categories and were all very well balanced for the most part, while Brink just attempts to offer more in-betweeners. The mistake in Brink though is that it really did a disservice to the system that had already been developed in games like ET and ETQW.
ETQW:
Rifle- balance of range/RoF/damage/medium spread
Scoped Rifle- long range/slow RoF/high damage/tight spread
Sniper- longest range/slowest RoF/highest damage/1shot HS, 2-3shot BS
GPMG- stance dependent weapon/high RoF/high damage/recoil/large clip size/slow reload/reduced speed/most accurate when scoped
Shotgun- I only know 1 player in the whole of ETQW who was pro with the shotty…
Pistol- best used to finish kills (machine pistol OP!!! lol)
Knife- not CoD style, which made it 100x cooler to troll with
Sub-category (nub weaponz)
Rocket launcher- imo I think the noobtube should have been made to do high damage to vehicles, and less damage to infantry. Overall more of an annoyance than anything; it has it’s uses :).
Grenade launcher- Extra nades, reduced ammo.
I wouldn’t put the Strogg weapons in the same category as the GDF as I think that the GDF weaponry is a better example of balance. So as you can imagine, simply tweaking values in all the categories of a weapon in a reward/punish manner can easily give you just as many guns as there are in Brink, but which function in the same manner. With Brink vs ETQW however, Brink just feels like a confused mess in terms of weaponry, which the overall gun game is mostly to blame really. In ETQW you can clearly understand how each weapon functions. Although some of the more skilled players can force a weapon to work outside of it’s comfort zone, the overall balance of the weapons is a near ingenious system in comparison to all the fake “weapon variety” crap you find in other games.
The heavy weapons need the weapon shields, my heavy uses an AR as his primary because you get more survivability and killing power with them… the heavy weapons still aren’t powerful enough to constitute how much more exposed you are when using them vs a weapon shielded AR. The automatic GL and semi auto shotgun don’t need them but the maximus, gatlung and chinzor need weapon shields badly. I understand why you don’t let them get shields ( the chinzor and gatlung are held by the waist instead of in front of the face).
The automatic shotgun is almost too powerful, especially as a soldier with a weapon buff it’s almost always a 1 shot kill to a non heavy. Also the ADS of the automatic shotgun seems off, like the gun doesn’t shoot where you aim it.
The AR’s are great, well worth the upgrade out of light body type. Problem is they are still better than the heavy weapons.
The tokmak pistol is my favorite looking one, but it has terrible killing power. I almost need to start shooting someone in the back to score a kill.
carb 9 still has the most killing power of all the smg’s by a mile.
EDIT: just for clarification, a gatlung or maximus is more devastating than an AR, the problem is the loss of the weapon shield for a heavy outside of melee range. Heavies cant run… from anything. A weapon shield lets them really be a heavy and be able to stick it out.
