Weapon Attachments

(NiNja) #21

I just read a recent interview that said there will be hundreds of different weapon possibilities… seems a lil improbable since there are only 24 different weapons… but who knows?.. Does anyone know if the “Heavy Class” can use all the weapons, or just the bigger ones?

(signofzeta) #22

is it going to be like wolfenstein where, you get a set of weapons to choose from, and within that one weapon, there will be attachments that weapon can have, and you can only pick one of the many attachments?

according to the preview, There is a picture of said weapon, and you click on the different parts of the gun and add attachments accordingly.

heavies can carry anything

What game is that from?

(DarkangelUK) #27

The first Crysis

(tokamak) #28

What I never found out, did Crysis have penalties to gun behavior for adding attachments?

(Voxie) #29

If I remember correctly, in Deathmatch if you pick up a weapon with a certain attachment, it’ll be available for all other weapons as well – so you start without any attachments, and weapon pickups grant you different attachments. In Power Struggle (a gamemode with individual per-match credits, similar to CS) you can buy attachments in the same way you can buy weapons.

(tokamak) #30

Yeah, in singleplayer it’s the same. It pays to collect the guns of fallen enemies to scavenge for attachments.

Now I think of it. Crysis probably has no downsides to attaching stuff to your gun. A shame as it means there’s no reason not to deck out your gun completely.

At least in COD and R6 your gun functions better if you don’t weigh it down with stuff. I hope Brink does this as well.

Well, for close combat you rather take of the scope and just have iron sight for example.
Also you could put a silencer on but it reduced rate of fire or something as I can remember.

Stuff like that.

(Voxie) #32

Do you have a source for weapon attachments negatively affecting weapons in CoD, 'mak?

(tokamak) #33

I saw it on an instructional video which I can’t find back anymore (it’s one of those series by Machinima). The dude went for an empty Ak-47 and named all the advantages it had.

Yeah the silencer has a distinct downside, but there’s no reason to pick iron sights over a reflex sight for example.

Not too sure I’m buying that. I’ve glanced through some damage charts and lists of discrepancies, but am yet to find anything suggesting that, say, a completely stripped AK will have better handling than an AK with a GL attachment. Sounds like placebo to me.

Edit: Just did a quick search specifically for the AK47 in MW. Seems like that specific weapon has a bug with attachments which makes it worse if it’s anything but bare. So it’s not an intended feature and it just happens with the AK.

(tokamak) #35

Maybe that’s true. I’d still like to see it implicated in Brink. Everything needs a cost otherwise the choices are no-brainers.

(Voxie) #36

I’m under the impression that the number of attachments you can put on your rifle in Brink depends on your body type, which seems like a nice way of balancing it to me.

(tokamak) #37

That would still make those attachments no-brainers to the players of that certain body type. I’d be stupid not to fill the attachment slots

(Voxie) #38

From what’s been told so far it seems like some (and hopefully most) attachments have both pros and cons. You could swap out your magazine for a drum-roll, giving you a higher capacity but longer reloading times, or you could switch to two mags taped together in opposite directions, leading to much faster reloads but a smaller capacity. This sort of customization will lead to different players using different loadouts, while allowing more attachments on any given weapon for the medium and large body sizes will make sure that weapons in a lower tier aren’t obsolete for said body types.

(tokamak) #39

The ‘lower’ tier or ‘bare’ equipment needs to be equal so it’s only a matter of preference and not just a compulsory option.

Just regarding the AKs in CoD4:MW, I think we can be fairly certain that them reacting badly to having attachments was an intended part of balance as they’re the best weapons in their categories and have great iron sights (On PC at least, I know all the MGL guys on xbox used M16 because on controllers etc).
