Hello all.
I have recently been thinking about how difficult it must be to balance multiple guns in multiple classes without having one become the meta. I think my idea would help reduce having a meta weapon in each class, as well as cater more to individual styles.
Firstly, by weapon abilities, I mean passive ones, only activated when certain criteria is fulfilled or present. For example, my first idea for one of these abilities was on the Blishlock. I personally think it is deadly in the right hands, but requires a lot of skill to fulfil its place (a longer ranged, more damaging SMG) and I personally find ranged fights easier with the Hochfire. So I personally would give it the ability to gib twice as fast.
This would make it a very powerful gun in certain situations, while still being hard to get kills with, essentially becoming more of a mop up gun. This adds a certain tactical choice to it, as you have to ask yourself, are you skilled enough to get a kill to take advantage of the gibbing speed, or are you going to hang back and finish your teams kills? I could see it becoming very useful for Bushwackers, a way to quickly finish your turrets kills.
Another example could be burst rifles, specifically the Stark AR. this guns scope makes it more inclined for long range attacking over mid range, so id give it a buff of, say, 5% extra damage per bullet after x metres. this would either be after the damage drop off or just before, and is only an example. the closer range options, like, arguably, the Driess, could have a 5% damage increase per bullet under x metres.
essentially, gun specific augments would, in my mind, make for more tactical choices outside of simple DPS, with different abilities for different guns, such as extra damage vs EVs (a scrapped augment, I believe) or extra damage vs deployables.
Any feedback or ideas is welcome, negative or positive, but hopefully more constructive then “This is stupid”
Thank you
I think gun abilities would all have to be throughly tested, but it’s beta so it miiiiiight be possible, but it’s still fun as a hypothetical thought.
