We want your questions! - Developer Stream Monday April 11th

(Chris Mullins) #1

Hey there!!

This Monday Exedore will be joining myself on the sofa to talk about Dirty Bomb. Along with updates for you and discussing some of the features in the ‘Rogue en Vogue’ update, we would like to spend some time answering your questions!

Comment your questions and like your favourites. We’ll then pick a selection and answer them live.

Happy posting!
shoe.

  1. Any plans for projectile auto/semiauto weapons. I realy miss the skill of leading my target. (plz do not use Nader again as arguement ‘you can lead with Grenade Launcher!!’)
  2. Any chance of having some kinds of Remakes of great ET/ETQW maps ? Some layouts in those games were epic and pure gold.
  3. Will Maps from Execution be available for Stopwatch mode in any variation? Very important quiestion for those, who like the maps, but will never consider playing execution seriously.

(Runeforce) #3

If the game is still alive in 3-5 years, where would it be? What would you imagine and like to see? (That’s an question about your oponion as participant, so don’t give us that ‘where ever the community wants us to take it’ crap.)

(rookie1) #4

Can we expect something very cool on the work table and haven’t been mention yet for DB?(other than maps mercs…)
Or what we see its what mostly we will get?

(Cankor) #5

Are their plans to make individual player performance, as opposed to team performance (i.e. win/loss), the number one factor in determining your rank in matchmaking? If so, how soon?

(twt_thunder) #6

are there coming linux server binaries^^?

(Raviolay) #7

Did you bother making skins for every merc, or did you just make skins for the ones players gravitate to? What is going to happen to the other skins?

(montheponies) #8

When is the game going to be released and how are you intending to market it, in a very crowded space?

(Rhinehold) #9

Here is my ‘bakers dozen’ list of questions, I would be happy to provide more if desired.

Questions for Exedore:

  1. Is the lack of strong marketing by design? Is SplashDamage/Nexon purposefully not marketing this game at this point until they feel it is more ‘complete’?

  2. In your view, what things need to be done for you to consider this game READY for ESL or some other competitive e-sports network?

  3. What do you see as the long term goal for this game? Casual F2P Shooter? Competitive juggernaught? What is YOUR vision?

  4. I suggested recently that for a much needed revamp of the tutorial system to better instruct new players to the finer points of the geame that Splash Damage create an event for ideas, ones chosen could be awarded elite cases or something similar. Is this something that could be in the works? Is reaching out to the community for help like this something that Splash Damage is considering? The people who are still playing this game do so because we love playing this game and want to help make it succeed.

  5. The majority (IMO) of people playing DB believe that public servers are the ‘main mode’ of this game. I disagree, do you? If you do, what do you intend to do to fix that perception? I have some ideas to change the view:

    • Create an unranked mode that works just like ranked but has TK/Collision off. Players would start with full servers and stay with the same group of people (there would have to be a penalty for leaving a match early, just like ranked, but maybe not as long? Something to mull over.
      • Provide incentives for playing ranked. Like increased case drops or a special skin that you can only get by playing AND COMPLETING ranked games.
      • Make this the most obvious way to play the game, allowing public servers to still exist but not be seen as the ‘main mode’.
IMO this would increase people willing to play ranked, eliminate the balance issues (you can still use the same metric you use now to balance publics, but with people not coming and going during the match it may actually be tuned to work), and get people less fearful of ‘venturing into the scary ranked mode’ that many believe is just full of pro players waiting to eat them for lunch.
      • Get private matches completed and make sure people know about it.
  6. Could we get an option in the profile overview to click on the ‘Since xxxx’ date to select a more refined date? It would be nice to see what my accuracy is over the past couple of months now that I have improved in the game and compare it to what it was when I first started, which mercs I am playing now instead of all time, etc. Options are always a good idea.

  7. Will SD/Nexon be working more closely with streamers in the future to highlight the Dirty Bomb streaming community? Most of us know each other and are friendly with each other, having a way to be on a twitch group, or highlighted on the front page of the Dirty Bomb website like H1Z1 did, or working with streamers to provide giveaways, etc would be a big help. We love playing and streaming the game and working with us could be a good way to get low cost marketing for the game highlighting gameplay. I have a lot of ideas around this topic…

  8. What are your plans on luring competitive players who have left because of the slow pace of competitive tools/environment back? I think a lot have moved to Overwatch because they are ‘throwing money at them’ and because games are much easier to get because of the amount of people playing/expected to be playaing. I get the feeling that the competitive players are just playing while holding their noses and would rather play Dirty Bomb if it was worth it for them.

  9. Right now the mindset of Splash Damage appears to be to be very tight lipped on the developement of the game, things that are coming, etc. While I can appreciate this, have you seen the way the Developers at Blizzard are talking with their community? Here’s a video of 2 Developers of Overwatch talking about netcode and decisions they have made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTH2ZPgYujQ . Could we get some more openness like this? No one expects a roadmap with hard dates or even any dates, just a general roadmap of what you see the finished state of Dirty Bomb to be, how you plan to get there, etc. Or more importantly, frank discussions about decisions in the game and how it falls into your overall vision of the game (see question #3)

  10. When do you see this game being released out of beta? Many people feel that the ‘beta’ tag is a joke, that it will be eternally beta, or that once you start charging for things in game it is no longer beta, but many more won’t give the game a chance until it is released. Is this something we MIGHT see this year? Next year? 2020?

  11. One thing that really helped CS:GO is tapping into the community and taking a lot of the work off of the dev team, for example maps and skins. Is this something that Splash Damage is looking to tap into? About six months ago I heard that an SDK would take about six months to code, is there any plans to start doing that? If so, if you communicate this desire I think a lot of people would be excited and willing to help. This would get you more skins and maps to add to the game, increasing the things people can buy, increasing your revenue, with little work on your end. I hope this is something you are considering at least?

  12. Is being able to pick the same merc (with a different loadout) ever going to be a possibility? This would allow for a player to have a specific merc with say a longer range weapon for areas of the map where it is more open but a shotgun weapon for when the fighting is mostly indoors (like Bridge as an example). Or to emply different perks for different areas of a map. Or for attacking / defending. I understand that adding a 4th merc in the rotation is a technical issue, but this option would help alleviate some of the pain we feel while playing.

  13. Is limited merc banning or merc limiting (one of the same merc only on each team at any one time) something that we may see in ranked play in the future? Most competitive groups do one or both of these, having this option in game would help get people used to it.

*Bonus 14. Can we get revives add to the K/D? (K/D/R)? It would be nice to see at the end of matches…

(Glottis-3D) #10

great post there, Mr. Rhinehold

(FireWorks) #11

The Bridge barricade generator can see the most tactical and intense fights, especially but not only in 5v5. Holding the road and preventing the naders and stokers from spam, extiguishing the molotows with the own stickies/nades, etc. (Not even mentioning the EV disable position and following hold of the not moved front spawn unless repaired)

Are you planning to do other objectives similar to that? Damage bases ones?
