We really need Augment Discussion!

(Tanker_Ray) #1

Hey, like the one I wrote at the praising Bomb Squad thread before,(Sadly it was patched, but hey, still much better than the old Bomb Squad! Best awareness augment so far!)

Why don’t we have augment discussion?

I really expect deep discussion and useful ideas about Pineapple Juggler, Sneaky less useful than Big Ear, Cool, Steady, Sparks and Rhino and Nader’s extreme reliance on Quick Charge, Nitros, Bigger Blast, and any others etc.

So we can also balance the current loadouts. For instance, to reduce the Rhino’s dependence of R93, I think Nitros augment has to spread through other loadouts.

Augment discussion please!

I’d say it’s other way around since headphones = Big Ears.

One of the mods explained a while ago why they belong in, I believe, the weapons subforum.
I’m pretty sure it was either @Amerika or @Ardez and one of them can probably explain it again since I forgot the exact reason.

Since augments are on loadouts and linked to weapons it all goes into the weapon forum. Unless what is being discussed is a merc ability then it goes into the merc forum.

It’s totally not confusing

yeah it would be interesting to introduce the idea of augments possibly having slight negative effects as well, to balance out some of the ‘must have’ augments.

(PleasantWheat) #6

@succinctDeer So something like double time having a 5% speed penalty to reloading while sprinting? Or lock on making the things affecting it louder, like the turret buzzing for example?

(solace_) #7

yeah for sure. If it works in terms of balancing and doesn’t make anything unusable, then I don’t really see why it isn’t an option worth exploring.

Can we also discuss Loadouts here?

Not really a bad Augment in and of itself but I’m really wonder why is failsafe in two of Arty’s loadout?

I can understand Nader, Fragger, Proxy, Fletcher, but question Arty a theoretically Thunder and Skyhammer as well.

Theoretically speaking if Thunder would have a loadout with failsafe would that mean quicker recover from a self blinding?

As for Skyhammer I know that a flare if right on top of it one takes 100 damage as for the airstrike, I’m not even sure if failsafe can help Skyhammer survive a single bomb and they’re too close together to really notice as I believe that the explosions overlap each other.

That said, Arty really takes the cake as it just seams implausible unless luring someone to it.

Loadouts are in total 9 consisting of a combination of three primaries, 3 secondaries and 3 melee weapons, yet Arty has 4 loadouts with the cricket at and Sparks 4 loadouts with the Empire-9 one seen as objectively the best due to having great medic bonuses and quick charge.

Arty on the other hand has 4 loadouts with the Stilnotto Stiletto.

Lock On mentions mines, but isn’t available to Proxy but available to Fletcher, which some say detonates his stickies faster and at one point didn’t even need to be detonated manually.

Thunder has 2 semiautomatic pistols and a revolver, unlike 3 heavy/magnum pistols Fragger, but also lacks his original 170 health (still retaining the speed aa he did have it) and doesn’t have the K-151 also available to him which would make the smaller pistol an understandable balance to his higher health and ammo capacity compared to Fragger.

Not even sure the AOE reach increase is working for Phoenix and Aura.

I still think augments should have higher impact to allow for more merc customization. Without customization gameplay eventually becomes stale unless new things are released ALL THE TIME. Instead trying to implement some form of merc customization would lead to a lot more options and options is fun. developing your mercs is fun. I mean that switching bewteen get-up or potent packs or whatever isnt really enough.

They are talking about new loadout cards but that is a temporary solution which only extends the problem. If loadouts was something each player created with a wide variety of balanced options both gameplay affecting and cosmetic I think the fun would not only extend it would never end.

It’s like when you play a racing game or an rpg and not being able to alter your car or character. It is fine as long as you release new cars or classes (i.e. mercs) but the FUN is finite.
