whoa, very cool. but wont it have a vast effect on your fps if you have alot of grass textures?
yesiree it will… so… use at your own discretion, however with todays fast
cards, it’s negligable for a drop in fps.
personally, i don’t notice anything different, i have my max fps capped at
140, and it stays the same, on a 6600gt pci-e.
lower systems might have a problem, but it’s hard to say until they try it
out. most ppl might not even notice the grass swaying until they start
crawling to avoid being seen, then they will see the grass moving…
you can still see it moving standing up and all, but with the avoiding of
bullets, airstrikes, nades and the hey hey it hurts me… they just wont take
a good look at the grass at 1st…
some servers even run radar with the grass off alltogether.
yes they do, mostly because the grass doesn’t aid hiding in any way as it’s not seen from any distance
is it possible to make the grass not able to be disabled by r_drawfoliage 0 ?
because if i put this into my map i would like it to appear ingame ^^
Most server admins will leave it on, but nothing can stop them from turning it off. r_drawfoliage is configurable by the server admin only, and they shape the rules like they want them.
yeah i know that but my thoughts were to make my foliage/grass appear as a model e.g. that waves around^^ i mean it’s very similar to it =) and does someone have a nice tut or thread or so about foliage in ET? gonna implent some grass into my next map but don’t have an idea yet how all this works

eventually im going to find some place i can host these files without going
the rapidshare route… i have some more things ive been trying like swaying
palmtree’s and others… and hopefully i can find a permanent home of sorts
for them.
www.speedyshare.com is a good place,but they wont stay permanent…:(.I dont think there is a site what saves things permanent …
You need to register, but then you can upload models/prefab/textures as much as you want, and they stay permantly

I’ve been wondering
if ET limits 256 models than how is it maps like radar work if they have more?
do they have more than 250?
The grass on radar is generated using the terrain shader so it doesn’t contribute to the model count AFAIK.
