Water - Struct or Detail?

(aburn) #1

Ok I want to add a big block of watter…
And I am not too sure how will it effect the game if I make it detail.

And I really cant do any tests at the moment cause it would destroy my map.

It has milions of leaks like base doors and windows looking outsinde in open-nothing.

Did anyone try this.

And what type is the watter on battery?

My watter is more or less same size.
THX guys cheerz.

PS.
If it will be detailed will it shotren the compile time (light and vis part )?

the point of structural brushwork is to create a virtual wall that seperates two areas or volumes from each other. detial brushwork does not create this wall or split between the volumes do you can see from one volume into another. since water is a non solid (often transparent texture) making it structural would kinda deafeat the point of structural brushwork

one pretty good technique is to creat your map as detial brushes and use only caulk brushes to create structural walls and devides in a much simpler shapes then your actuly map

Yeah thats what I do…
But I was curious what about watter.

Now I get it…

It is just a texture… and who cares that players will get in it…

I use caulk hulls to seperate detailed parts… and do vis blocking, clipping and hinting from the beginning as this is the Xth map I start and I hope I will finally finish one.

lol
