How many vis portals do you have? (when the vis compile process is done)
water and sky
I guess that map must be a VIS nightmare… How long was it to run VIS? Days? Weeks?
well i use your bat file. the whole compile -> -meta -patchmeta, light fast, filter samples 2 vis fast saveprt, takes about 30-40-50 minutes to compile
PS: 4522 portalclusters
17413 numportals
11868 numfaces
First, check the .prt file in your maps directory of the last compile (with the switches above you used). How big is it?
Mine is around 1-2 MB for a .bsp size of abour 10 MB.
Let’s check it from the top down.
bsp -meta -patchmeta should not take more than 5 mins. More like 2 mins or so
vis fast should be less than 10 mins. More like 5 mins.
light fast filter samples 2 shouldn’t be more 30 mins I think.
Of course compiling is tightly related to hardware, cpu, memory, etc. So I think your compile time are over by 10 mins or so… The big issue is the light. The more lighting the more time but even then… I usually use “-light -fast -filter -samples 2 -bounce 8 -patchshadows” and that takes me 50 mins and that’s longer than what you used. My hardware is prolly different too.
What I would suggest is to compile VIS FULL only and see how long that takes you because I think that’s your main problem as Mr. Mustard hint at.
hmmm… It’s not that big… There’s still 6 MB unaccounted for. That’s if you take that 5 MB less from the conversion of your PotC sounds from 6 MB to less than 1 MB.
If you have custom textures it might account it that.
Are you sure you’re using Maximum Compression when making the pk3?
Don’t forget that if those models you included are misc_models you don’t have to include them in the pk3 and if the misc_gamemodels you use are those coming with ET you don’t need to include them either because everyone already has those. Make sure you don’t include the textures that comes with the game either. Check for any psd (photoshop) files included in the pk3 or anything that isn’t necessary.
i deleted big part of the textures and the models, copressed it again and from 26MB it became 18.9
A bit better but I’m sure you can do even better. As someone else was saying, there are some pretty big maps out there with a size of around 10-12 MB. Make sure everything NOT necessary is not in the pk3.
I think you have a LOT of bsp splits due to the vis process (maybe you can’t do anything about that). The size of my map is 6654 x 9494…The .prt file for it is only 745 Kb, BSP is 12 MB and .map file is 10 MB
Good point there Mr Mustard.
My map is about 12500x12500x3296 and as I said my .prt is 1.484 MB
What is your map’s size?
EDIT: Added Z size
i reduced the suze ti 15.9MB. i think i can not delete anything else,
Move all the pk3 packs elsewhere except pak0 and pak1, put your map in there, run the map and check if anything is missing (orange grid).
The best thing is to have 3 installs. 1 for playing, 1 for map making and 1 for map testing. I use 2, some people only 1… I personally think at least 2 installations is the minimum.
hmm thats an interesting issue. i just use one; make changes in the .map file; compile and play. Oh, i forgot i have an additional playable version… So they become 2 …
Will be able to upload the map with size of 15.9MB in pcgamemods or something
venice is 19+ MB and is uploaded on pcgamemods, so I think you are ok
I meant 3 installs of ET, not of the map.
You can copy the directory “C:\program files\ET…” to c:\et\mapping\ and another one to c:\mapping.
In the normal install that’s where you put all the pk3 of the maps you play online.
In the second install, you put the BASIC pk3, pak0 and pak1 and the other paks needed for level design (common.pk3, lights.pk3 and mapmedia.pk3).
The third install would have: pak0 and pak1 and your compiled map in either a pk3 or .bsp in the maps directory. Making sure you put all the custom textures (that don’t come with ET) in the textures directory, double checking the path to reflect those in your shader file(s).
HTH
ooh…i see know… but these common.pk3, lights.pk3 and mapmedia.pk3… i thgink i dont have them
I suggest you reinstall ET-Radiant then but first search your HD to see if they’re installed somewhere… Is it possible you deleted them somehow?
Also, I read somewhere that lights.pk3 does NOT come with the normal install of ET so it might be a good idea to include it if you used anything coming from there. In the current state of things on your computer I don’t think you need to include it…
