Was releasing ET for free a wise idea?

ET was very good to be free, I would have paid for the game and I’m sure many other fans of the game would have also. I would have liked to see the single player mode still as well as the bot option, but I think the only way this will happen is if RTCW 2 is made or the sourcecode is publically released which I don’t think will happen very soon. You can’t really expect much more out of a free game, it works well, gives me hours of gameplay and the graphics are very nice. Good game overall.

I don’t think SD would even be able to sell it, I thought Activision said free MP or nothing.

The problem with the frequency of wallhacks and the like being used really doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that the game is free, or with the popularity of the game really. The problem lies in the games base engine, Quake3. The quake3 engine has been around for so long now and has so many other games that use it that the hacks from one game translate over to another quite easily. That makes coming up with a hack for the new Q3 engine based game that much quicker and easier because it isn’t a matter of coming up with a hack, but just “translating” it to a new game. As long as you play games based on the Q3 engine you are going to see the same hacks pop up in every game. It’s just something we have to live with. :frowning: :angry:

Yes, it was worth to release ET as a free game. It may limit Counterstrike madness.

Personally i would have happily paid £30 for this game and enjoyed official support and patches( maybe the odd new map) rather than a great free game with no new official maps or patches :frowning:

Extra maps/patches would’ve been nice, but they gotta concentrate on D3 now :slight_smile: I think SD did the right thing. (Remeber, even though us hardcore gamers may have paid for this game, alot of the peeps ACTUALLY paying may not have…)
