We have a Flak38 3DS unskinned model. We trade it with one of yours
Seriously we can give it to you. I will send it to you tonight.
But I really would like that you come and joins us at SO. As I proposed earlier in a post long gone, we could create a real community where we could share prefabs, knowledge, ideas and moreover have co-ordinated efforts into making cool maps that make real campaigns.

That’s what i’m trying to do with SO since the begining, welcoming everybody in the team, being them mappers or not, rookie or experienced. We all have to win from doing so (no play on words).

With the lack of co-ordination, i’m pretty sure the community will come out with maps that are alike in gameplay, are based on similar events or battles. That will be a loss of effort.

Just been speaking to Decoy about this merger

In the past I’ve been wary on combing team/clans etc…

Worked with a team for Q3 total conversion - then we merged with 1 team and then a 2nd - the name of the mod changed, nothing got done - ppl left ppl didnt know what was happening and in the end it fell apart - after I had produced 2 good maps that were waste

Then was in clan which joined with another - 2 weeks later it fell apart

So - I’m in favour, provided this doesnt baloon out of control and we have 65 ppl in this - too many cooks dont just ruin the broth they destroy it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d hate for the work put into my omaha map to be wasted

I share your concerns DanyBoy but don’t see it as a problem. True, experiences in the past might be that you get so many people running around it’s hard to see the trees for the forest but this is a community atmosphere, not a mapping project.

As more people come into the fold, new projects start up. All the mappers communicate with each other (via the forums) about problems, challenges, or things they’ve done to solve them. We build up what might be a huge and useful prefab library for all kinds of maps because the separate map and campaign projects are all kinds and take place at various locations across Europe showing off different architectural and cultural styles. In the end, it’s not 65 people trying to fight their way to a single end but perhaps 65 people all collaborating together.

Its similar to how these forums offer general advice on various problems, showcases of peoples work, etc. but in a more focused group with realistic established goals.

Just my view from the cheap seats.

er not really worried about a massive prefab resource - soudns like a good idea- my concern is for the campaigns/campaigns being made by Decoy + Pogs

From what we discussed earlier Decoy and i, our visions on a Overlord Campaigns are compatible.
His Overlord Campaign features :
Omaha Beach, which we didn’t add to our own Overlord campaign, cause Decoy was already mapping it and i think it’s a waste to make 2 Omaha Beach maps.
In Secrets Operations, we focused on other aspects of Overlord : Commando operations such as Operation Deadstick (Pegasus Bridge), Pointe du Hoc. We will surely replace Ouistreham Casino, which was a presonnal idea and project (first step of French soldiers in France), for which i didn’t find enough info by Deathmaster personal project : Carentan Battle (8th june 1944)

In SO, we are all free, no Chief or orders. I’m just here to help people, share my ww2 knowledge, texes, ideas. I propose them to the team and if people are interested by a map idea, i work on a design (2D) and search for info to help them. I also co-ordinate the team efforts, acting like a link between modelers and mappers.
I co-fonded Path to Victory mod for ut2003 and know waht you 're talking about. In a mod, it’s really difficult to work together, but mapping is easier cause we all have the same goal : make the best map on a battle or operation.
In SO, each mapper is responsible for his own map so at the end, he’s doing what he wants. But we try to help him and give him advice. We try to guide him toward excellency, historical realism, and a good gameplay.
At the end, çf we woirk together well, no one name will be in the credit of the map but an entire team made of mappers, modelers, historical researchers, scripters, etc …
By teaming, you are free to focus on the thing you’re good at cause you know that you have team mates that help you on the others.
