Want your opinion - Silencers & Front Grips, useless or not?

my understanding of silencers is, say you are an op, and you are working your way through enemy lines. you take down an enemy and this puts you on the radar for all the other guys running around. if you have a silencer on, it may mess up CI, but you benefit b/c the nearby team members who didn’t see the shots fired, dont see you on the radar.

I set up one of the SMGs with a silencer kit for just this purpose (for my op). I haven’t used it much at all, but that’s what I envisioned. in terms of situational use, is this what they’re designed for? and will this work?

might just throw a silencer on a carb to make it balanced (and silent)

So no one exactly knows how much the silencer decrease damage? Nowhere I can find the info, not even on Brink Wikia or Denkirson. I’d guess it’s something like 3-5 less dmg per bullets but I’d still like to know the real numbers.

Check Den’s forum, according to him it’s probably 0.85x

Continuing with the suggestion to make silencers bypass combat intuition I also realized that even though it will give a slight advantage to people sniping, in the end I think it would balance nicely with the damage reduction, since I think there wouldn’t probably be any one-shot-kills with it, even while buffed.

And as someone noted, you can minimize the triggering of combat intuition, but it would still give you an advantage if you were able to bypass it, since the ability gives the player much more precise information of where they are being shot from than the normal damage direction indicators.

If you can’t spot a glowing red sniper then either you suck or he’s that good.

(Shadowcat) #27

Either way, you’re pretty much screwed.

I dont really care what the rationalization for silenced snipers is, though, i just hope it becomes practical cuz it just feels badass.

(Galaxy) #28

I meant that the directional yellow indicator from combat intuition is more useful than the normal bloody lines you get left or right when shot, but since silencers reduce damage you wouldn’t die on the first shot so you would have time to react before the second shot, whereas if combat intuition is triggered even though you might get killed in one shot at least there is a warning, and if the sniper is not that good sometimes that is enough.

Also they are incredibly noisy on rifles where they direct a lot of exhaust gases backwards, which translates to very high sound levels. It isn’t so bad for the shooter, but standing near him is very annoying with hearing protection, and I’d hate to think how it was unprotected. Even with hearing protection the noise level is uncomfortably high, and you can actually feel the sound pressure on your face. If you were on a team with muzzle braked rifles, you’d get hearing damage very quickly without hearing protection.

Never used silencers, I wanna shoot somebody as little as possible.

But I used the front grip with my CARB-9 and I KNOW (from experience) that it makes a dramatic difference, I could careless for a speed sling unless the grip is unavailable.
Check Den’s forum, according to him it’s probably 0.85x
Good to know so a weapon doing 30 goes down to 25 which quickly turns into much less damage in a burst of fire. However something even more interesting that he says right after is the following which I’ve quotted. Is it still true? It’s from May when he tryed and it’s really lame if it indeed does nothing at all other than in the fake in-game stats.

Front Grip, with the exception of the Galactic, doesn’t appear to do anything on its own.
The Galactic goes from 1.92 and 1.8 spread to 1.6 and 1.5.
83.33% of the original spread.

Spread nor Angle Burst are changed and the Magnitude is too random to be sure if that is effected anyway.
Power Burst is reduced by… only one hundredths of a decimal.

Though that’s only with the Front Grip alone. It may counters the loss of Accuracy from other attachments like Drum Mags…

…Nope.
Does the Grip actually do anything?
It might improve recovery… No.

I’ll get back on this. But Galactic + Grip = Do it.
