want to run, not fly around in my map...

(cicero) #1

Read an old tread about testing your map. Now I’m in the exact samt position as described there…

I load up my map and can fly around but when opening the limbo meny and selecting a team, I get kicked out…

I have the following things in my map:

a wolf multiplayer spawn point
a red team spawn point (well 16 acctually…)
and therefore also 16 blue team spawn point
and finaly mapcordmins and mapcordmaxs (perfect square and slight larger than box around map)

So what do I have to do to be able to run around in my map…?

THX!

(StormShadow) #2

are your spawnpoints startactive?

i think you need 2 wolf objectives one with default_allies and one with default_axis keys

your max and min coords should be slightly bigger than the map (so ive heard)

(cicero) #3

Well, how do I do them?

Can I just put in a piece of let say furniture and assign it as an allied_default_objective? or do I have to draw an ordinary brush and assign that as an objective?

I recommend you read this thread first and try the tutorial by hummer.

thx, but I have already done that… Still I can only fly around in my map, not run as a normal player…

(rouvio) #6

man, YOU MUST have the objective inorder to have the limbo window.

(BadIdea) #7

?
Box with info_player_start.
Min/max coord.

Start
devmap mymap
developer 1
generatetracemap

And you can walk.
This is all what you need.

// entity 0
{
“mapcoordsmaxs” “1504 -3527”
“mapcoordsmins” “-8840 6817”
“gridsize” “192 192 192”
“_color” “1.000000 0.894356 0.723528”
“classname” “worldspawn”
“_blocksize” “1024 1024 1024”
“_mingridlight” “48”
“_minvertexlight” “20”
“_minlight” “15”

Why why why…???

I’ve made ONE objective that shall be blown up, func_explosive, targetname (linked to a trigger brush), mass, sound, useshader on mass, assigned it as an axis objective etc etc etc…

I open the limbo meny, selecting a team and then I get kicked out with the following message: “no spawnpoints found” But heay! I’ve got 16 spawnpoints for each team, and they are start active! so why why why won’t it work???

One thing that I just thought of right now… the objective that I’ve made that shall be blown up by the allies, does that automaticly count as an objective that shall be protected by the axis or will I have to assign the SAME objective to BOTH team but with different meaning? and if so, how is that done then? I know how to assign it to one team…
THX!

Please read the thread carefully I gave you. ( http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2496 ) The posted comments by “Slippery Jim” give you the subtle clue why you can only fly around the map and not use the limbo menu.

have read that over and over again for more than a week and it still won’t work!! I now have 18 spawn points for each team, an info_player_deathmatch, one objective for allies and one for axis and it still don’t work…!

So why?

(sock) #11

You really need to read the forum threads more carefully because the information you need is displayed as follows …

These 2 comments by “Slippery Jim” tell you that you maybe missing an entity called “team_WOLF_objective”. This entity tells the engine where to spawn players in the map and puts a spawn point on the command map.

The ET reference manual with the editor says the following:

Located near all spawnpoints in the game is a team_WOLF_objective entity which appears on the command map, determines who owns the spawnpoint initially (If you select both spawnflag values then it WILL produce erratic results) and has a description key used by the autospawn feature.

If english is not your primary language you need to find a forum which can help you in your native language because all the threads here are english based.

maybe, and just MAYBE Radiant isnt clear enough ? have u thought of that ?

There is not a single COMPLETE manual out there - that discusses all the things, from the moment u strart the editor, to the moment u and 19 more buddies play X maps campgain…

You don’t need a team objective to walk around your map. Atleast I don’t…all I have set are the coordsmins and max’s, an info player deathmatch, one red and one blue team spawn and thats it.

(sock) #14

In order to spawn via the limbo menu you need at least 1 “team_WOLF_objective” entity for each team. Without them you will get the error message “no spawn”. Flying around in spectator mode is not walking around your map.

Yes this would be a lovely situation but unfortunately there is no master manual and there is no one location to get all the information either. Learning to map can be a very frustration situation due to alot of the initially information not being readily available. But you cannot expect information to be spoon fed either, mapping is partly investigation work as well.

I don’t fly around in spectate mode…I actually walk and run, and jump and plant mines and call down airstrikes in my map…and all of this WITHOUT “team_Wolf_objective.”

I’ve created a test map with/without “team_WOLF_objective” and they behave exactly as expected. I’ve double checked with the code team and they confirm the same. You cannot spawn into a map without a “team_WOLF_objective” entity being present in the map. If you have a sample map please PM so I can give you an email address to send me the map file. Because we really would like to look at it.

The above comment is a classic case of me assuming people would be talking about the initial tutorial by hummer ( http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2496 ) and working with the standard entities file for ET.

a) “info_player_start” entity is not listed in the ET entity list.
b) The above system will not work if “team_CTF_bluespawn” or “team_CTF_redspawn” entity are present in the map.
c) The tutorial by hummer does not talk about “info_player_start” entities and recommends “info_player_deathmatch” entities.
d) The above situation will work only for test maps and not maps which contain any spawn entities for either team.

I’m still looking for an example map file which only contains standard ET entities and works without “team_WOLF_objective” entities through the limbo menu.
