I’ve used a .md3 model subustitute for the team_CTF_blueflag entity, but now would like to display an icon in the position next to where the the C4 or Dynamite displays when you have possession. How or what do I have to do to implement this?
Want to implent an icon
Well, that was interesting. I’m not looking to put the icon in the command map. But maybe more like in the HUD. It’s when you pick up an object…that I want to display the item in an inventory.
Thanks for the link though…it’s a good site.
If I understand you correctly, you want to change the green ! icon over your head when you grab the objective? If so, find the latest version of Transmitter and look in there for how they did it. probably a remapshader command with a custom graphic to make sure it didn’t affect other maps.
No, that doesn’t sound like what I am after.
When you pick up dynamite that someone has left on the ground, an icon appears on the lower right of your screen. It’s an Icon, letting you know that you now hold the object. I think that in goldrush you see a little bar of gold when you get the boxes. I’m after the same thing. My current map has the team member steal an RPG from an Armory and I want to display an RPG Icon when they pick it up.
i think any objective (including the bars in goldrush) make a gree circle apear with a exclamation mark inside it apear to tell the player they are carrying an objective
i think its just programed so any objective you are carrying makes that apear
Don’t take this wrong, but I think you’re confused (I think), unless you are seeing something that I haven’t before (which is very possible).

When you pick up a returnable objective (i.e, team_CTF_blueflag), you will see the green circle with the white exclamation mark inside, signifying you hold the objective. This same symbol appears above your head, notifying the world that you hold the objective

As an engineer, when you select dynamite (weaponbank 5 or 6 for engineers), you will see the dynamite icon in the lower right-hand corner. However, this only shows icons for the weapon you currently have selected, not a pic of any objectives you have recovered.
so, which one do you want to change? From your description, it sounds like you’ve changed to model for #1 but want to change the image/icon for #2
Here’s are the two items I’m talking about

IT’s the icon in the lower right corner, but the issue maybe with the TCE mod. I had assumed that Truecombat Elite (ET MOD) used existing routines of the ET engine and thought what I was seeing was something that maybe easy to modify.
They have done away with the class structure as it pertains to ET and now any player (maybe all engineer class) on the team may receive a C4 satchel at the beginning of their g_gametype 5 (objective mode). The satchel appears on the lower right corner, until you plant the dynamite (same model as the satchel for one of the other classes in et…the one that can swap clothes). If the player drops the satchel, from being killed (i.e. a flag) it remains there and can be picked up by a team mate…
Lower right next to the weapon status “auto”

Your example of number 1 doesn’t appear in the mod. I don’t know if it’s because they have no icon for that objective. If it’s that…then maybe all i have to do is substitue my own pic of what would or should have generated the circle with the ! in center… wow wouldn’t that be nice…lol.
BTW: thanks for your help
Ah!! That would have explained everything. You were talking about TC:E, which may handle things very differently from ET, in which case I can’t help you. In the future, explaining which game you are mapping for is pretty important.
My apologies…however you may know enough to either point me in the right direction or solve the problem… you just don’t know. I’m discovering that there are commonalities to all these games that share the same engines. Programmers are lazy enough not to re-invent the wheel, unless they have to and then go way out of their way not to.
Understanding how ET solves this problem…may help me figure out how to solve mine…
maybe. But since knowledge is accumulative…you just don’t know what you may yield.
Thanks,
well, one of the things you can do is to try and decompile one of the ‘stock’ maps and take a look at the entity keys of the grabable dyno object. You may see a key with a value like customimage /gfx/dyno (swag on my part)
If you find that, you may be able to use the same key in your map, with the path pointing to your custom graphic. You can also look thru the TC:E pak0 and look for that particular icon and see where it resides, to give you and idea of where in the map entities you might find it
great idea… I had similar thoughts just a little bit ago, but will wander off in your suggested direction.
Thank you very much.
