Want an aggressive/pushing medic

(Ballto) #1

I own sawbones (and aura obviously), but i dont care for sawbones much. My teammates seem to usually forget the packs can be stopped by damage and he self heals too slowly, and while aura is amazing at killing and healing i think shes a bit too glass cannony and better on defence than offence, especially on EV maps.

So, should i buy sparks or phoenix?

I know their play styles are vastly different, if i want to play a more aggressive pushing medic which should i get first.

Im leaning towards phoenix myself but would like a few opinions. Pros of phoenix as i understand them:
*Self revive can let you save a team wipe if people ignore your corpse or are shooting allies
*instant-12 second AOE heal that affects everyone near you
*moderate speed/HP
*Decent killing power

Cons:
*Long CD on healing if charged
*Long CD on self revive
*Limited arsenal

Pros to sparks i know of:
*Long range revive/sniper
*4 Instant 50(ish) hp health packs that seem to CD fastish
*Possibly most versitile merc in game with an smg sniper reviver/killer and instant heals
*Fast

Cons:
*Squishy squishy
*Still limited in cqc
*No defibs for speedy combat revives (although still uncommon with defibs)
*Often a huge target
*Worse than aura when team is under fire

Though self revive can be helpful at times, it’s more of a gimmick most of the times. If you’re going for an aggressive push med, then phoenix is probably the one to go with since he can turn the tides of a battle with a near instant heal for everyone around you. Were you not there for the phoenix giveaway?

(XavienX) #3

Definitely Phoenix since he can group heal and owns smgs. His self-revive can definitely come in handy.
Sparks is more of a sit-back medic waiting for teammates to go down and quickly heal them back up. Ofc unless you’re a pro, you can go hand to hand combat/sniping self-healing, cricket bat ninja wall-jumping everywhere annoying tactical medic then Sparks is your choice.

Phoenix: Combat Medic
Sparks: Tactical Medic

Both are great for aggressive medicking, and so is Sawbonez.
I prefer KEK10 Phoenix over Sparks, though, but that might be because I’m not used to sniping with hipfire sens.
Those KEK10 headshot dinks, though, feels gud man.

I’ve almost finished my aggressive medic “montage” too, I just need a clip or two now.

Phoenix is the most aggressive medic. Sawbonez is close second. The thing that puts Phoenix over the top is his self revive.

Aura and Sparks are much more defensive.

Sawbi is always underpreciated, yet I think he is the more solid, versatile medic. He doesn’t need his deployable to setup to heal someone, he can move fast enough to different location to heal and maintain two front, he can take more damage and therefore not waste heal on himself only. The heal pack heals fast enough if you take care not to heal someone under heavy fire but that take some training.

So far, I think sparks and phoenix are pretty selfish in the sense sparks is always played as a sniper with auto-heal abilities, and phoenix always use his heal when endangered as he has only one.

Imo Sawbonez is the best medic. It’s actually my main merc. 60%-70% of the matches that I play are as Sawbonez I agree with @Izzy that he’s underappreciated.

Sawbonez is a good medic for offense imo but if he doesn’t fit your playstyle, I would say Phoenix is a good option for an aggresive (offense) medic.

Phoenix would be my first recommendation but if you have crazy good aim and a quick charge loadout for Sparks, then Sparks would definitely be more deadly.

(Jostabeere) #10

But her healing abilities are still arse.

(Scav) #11

Sparks is good as second medic (lets say phoenix is more of a medic than Sparks, shes more complex), if you are alone, your team needs to adjust so you are able to revive them since your healing is most of the time negligible. If you want to support and push your team, Phoenix KEK is a good option, if you want to piss off ppl by flanking and shanking them or just headshotting, get sparks.
I prefer Sparks and Aura just because of the movespeed.

(watsyurdeal) #12

Phoenix is a great choice, his strength is in his self sustain. He can heal himself more easily and more effectively than Sawbonez and can self revive in rare instances.

Plus he has access to some of the best weapons and is quite fast. Sawbonez is a better healer, but I find I’m far more potent with Phoenix.

(KattiValk) #13

Phoenix is definitely a better merc for what you’re looking for.

Sparks is very good for single teammate healing and single enemy killing. Her medpacks can bring one teammate back very quickly as well as keep you in action more often, and she can basically guarantee a kill in CQC by landing a charged shot (you should keep the REVIVR out and charge as much a possible) to the body and then finishing the job with her machine pistol. Her reviving power allows her to brig entire teams back to full health incredibly fast though, and that is obviously where her greatest strength lies.

I play pretty darn aggressive with Aura. The key is just that you have to remember to pick up your healing station. A good example is pushing in underground stage 2. Drop the healing station at the top of the stairs, as you push pick it up and put it either at the elevators or behind the first set of crates. Pick it up, push, drop it by the doors, pick it up, push, bottom of stairs, etc… Sometimes I’m moving it as little as the next crate 10 feet ahead. This all makes a huge difference though.

I play pretty aggressively on pubs with healers. I try to heal/revive through killing the other team first. It’s a preventive care tactic

My preferred merc for this is actually Sawbonez since his packs, while healing him somewhat slowly, will easily heal him faster and more frequently than even Phoenix. Phoenix is pretty good in a team situation where a burst heal could win a fight but it’s pretty awful in 1v1 scenarios outside of simply surviving long enough to either turn a corner or hope that somebody shows up and shoots the guy still shooting you. Phoenix is definitely good at being aggressive but I’d take the slower healing of the Sawbonez packs you can use more often over a burst heal that takes away from your offensive potential. I find less downtime with Sawbonez in regards to waiting for enough HP to be offensive.

(Ctrix) #16

As someone who plays Sparks more than any other medic. She’s exactly the medic you don’t want. Literally the opposite of an aggressive combat medic.

(PeneTraitor) #17

As others have said, Phoenix is better. The self revive will not be all that useful unless you die in a convenient spot, but his ability to get heals out there on the fly and spike health gain during a firefight are great. The main issue with Phoenix will be keeping track of and loading up on bullets because he can easily run out if you are shooting a lot. If you can manage how much/long you are charging his heal you can have it available a lot which is hugely helpful.

(Lumi) #18

But her healing abilities are still arse. [/quote]

Well, you can also get potent packs and if you’re good with aim as I said the medpacks can easily land on allies. Finally you can wait for a death a pre heat the gun to revive giving tons of health if you have give up as well. All in all, she’s a good medic in the right hands.

(watsyurdeal) #19

Sparks’ health packs are for her, not her team. Her strength is constant revives, and with get up they tend to be a full heal revive.

(Gung-ho) #20

Phoenix has a really good movement speed for his hp which combined with his heal makes him a lot more capable at escaping battle, recovering and joining the fray again. The pulse heal is also a lot more pub friendly and basically Phoenix kinda puts Sawbonez to shame for general play. I actually think they should buff Sawbonez because everything he can do another medic can do better.
