Hello,
The current situation for competitive Dirty Bomb isn’t very good as things haven’t really kicked off yet. There are teams and mixes that regularly play MM, but mostly you will need to arrange the games with other players/teams to avoid sitting in the que for hours at worst. I’m hoping that the situation will get better soon when we get some tournaments running on a regular basis.
To answer your questions:
- When is it possible to find someone in the MM search?
Unfortunately the current situation is that if you just jump to the que and hope to find a match, your chances are quite low at any time. From my experience the best chance to get a game going versus Europeans is during 20-24 CET. I’ve only faced one or two American teams in MM so can’t really give you a good answer on their peak hours.
- is it possible to find some teams searching for 3o3 or 5o5 on irc or something like that?
Like I stated in my previous answer, it is really hard to find a game by just queuing up, because the current player base for MM games is so small. IRC is one of the platform teams and players are using to look for opponents. I’d assume that #dirtybomb on QuakeNet is the most popular Dirty Bomb channel on IRC, but I’m not sure if there is some other channel that I’m not aware of. Most games I’ve played have been arranged through Steam though. If you’re playing in a team, it’s really useful to add players from another teams that are around your skill level to your friend list so you can ask them for games in the future too. There is also a new public Steam group called “Dirty Cups”, which you can freely join and has it’s focus on competitive Dirty Bomb (cups and PUGs).
5on5 is currently the only format for competitive matches as there are no private servers available and MM only supports 5on5 format.
- is it now possible to create private servers?
Nope, not at the moment.
