Walljumping

(DarkangelUK) #61

bet you don’t

I bet he couldn’t even do a single walljump.
ok so lets add this wall jumping into the game and ill exploit/abuse the **** out of it and see if you can actually hit me

i bet you good money you cant/wont be able to lmao
Assuming wall jumping would make you harder to hit much? Whysonegative?

Wall jumping wouldn’t make anyone harder to hit. You just jump, then when impacting a wall, jump again, just as you could jump, then when impacting the floor (i.e. landing), jump again. There’s no increase in speed, probably no additional animations, nothing that would make a difference as far as tracking is concerned, the only difference is we get to move around the environment in new more intuitive ways.

On the subject of strafe -jumping, I want it as much as anyone, but we can either keep repeating our demands and explaining why it would be great for the game and not alienate anyone, but still end up not getting it because SD have “evidence”, or we can accept they’ve made up their minds on this point and suggest “something else”.

i think in current maps there is that feeling that your being herded down a path.
the only options being maybe an extra route.
something like this would significantly add options or choice about how you play.
and be more interesting as the the option maybe not that obvious at first or even second glance.

of course at the moment more could be done with map flow with regards to extra routes
through climbing but these can be cumbersome and feel like stop start stop.

this could add just a bit of duration to a players momentum.
maybe sd could test this in house if possible.

This is the crux of all that is wrong with video games in general, that are made today. Design choices (like objectives) are lumped together for the sake of consistency. Rather then put separately out in game modes that cater to niches I would like a mutator that allows for strafejumping but it must be mixed in with the rest!

However that will alienate (apparently, funny given the No1 FPS franchise that is Call of Duty has it) a lot of people so the avid players are left hung and dry.

Haha, yea I’m interested to understand the argument that “modern gamers” don’t know, can’t learn, get confused by, etc. strafe jumping, yet in the same breath are referred to as CoD kiddies.

(neg) #68

Just because you seem to think a movement mechanic or any other gameplay mechanic cant be abused, people will always find a way to get the most out of it to get an advantage, thats what separates casuals and competitive players…

i thought that was obvious

I aim by putting my crosshair over people’s heads, that’s why they call me the comp playa playa.

FPS are really just point and click adventure games \o/

Seeing my son strafejump with a Xbox 360 controller in zombies (the epitome of pick up and play) put’s the whole argument to rest for me. Yes “modern gamers” probably should read, old codgers (me) with money who can’t do it.
