Wall of Shame (ban list)

(Gh0st1e) #1

Can we get a running list of banned players with all of the relevant information to their ban (name, why they were banned, who or what banned them)?

I think this would be a good(and mildly entertaining) way to keep both players and GMs responsible for their actions. If a GM bans someone, then they should be confident enough to have their name displayed with their decision. If a player is banned then they should be put on display for their offenses. To me cheating in a game is only for the lowest of the low and a little public embarrassment can go a long way for keeping people in check.

What’s everyone else’s opinions on this? Suggestions? Please give reasons as to why you think this would be a good/bad idea.

http://dirtycups.gg/tournaments/rules/current-bans/

here’s a list of banned dirtycups players, note that no proof is actually provided for these (for example i still don’t know why zombs is banned, oen’s eyes decided he was cheating and that’s that)

I really could care less who they are, especially since if they are banned I won’t have to deal with them again.

It would be a really good idea, with reasons and dates. So that there wont be “unfairly” banned wannabepros.
But since such features only benefit players, i dont really see it happening. While idea behind “no naming and shaming” is to keep things hush-hush, to cover staff mistakes and prevent players from seeing true extend of cheating/exploitation.

I play another game on Steam. (It’s pretty bad even if it has potential and the devs are arses) but they publish a banlist regularly.

(Gh0st1e) #6

@Watsyurdeal Not necessarily true. People that cheat in one game probably cheat in others. Sure some may not have the same name but chances are quite a few do use the same name. Also, the “reasons” part of it would allow for anyone that has been banned wrongly too refute the claims.

Pretty contradictory to the no naming and shaming policy the forums operate under, so unlikely to happen. And, honestly, pretty unnecessary.

(Gh0st1e) #8

@Backuplight Yea I am aware of the policy but I felt that was more directed towards players making hackusations against other players without evidence as opposed to something coming directly from the GMs.

(Harlot) #9

Except for the fact that they can make a new Steam and continue playing. Juke Kitty, who was banned from Dirtycups and Dirty Bomb did so and is streaming while hacking.

(SteelMailbox) #10

I think it would serve as a good reminder to people that if they get caught, that’s what happens and it would shame even more those who cheated. But the system needs to be flawless so it wont show people that were suspected but weren’t actually cheating.

The problem is, with Steam integration and bans only applying to your Steam account, you can just make a new Steam account and use an entirely different name. Now you’re a different person altogether. Until SD learns how to IP/hardware ban, hacking will continue to overrun this game, even with antihack software.

Good point

Yes, ban Motherboard MAC. It will give dev some time before some spoofer come around.

(D'@athi) #14

Don’t know what anticheats are allowed to read, but i guess there was a simple thing in battlefiel showing us, that there is no such thing as hardware-bans.

(Cr4zy) #15

HWID and MACs can be spoofed already. You aren’t stopping cheaters anytime soon, you can just make their life harder. But because it’s F2P the cheating will be rampant forever.

They need a better/working kick system. The option to have player hosted servers so admins can deal with cheaters themselves.

(sixten) #16

I’m gonna say APB. Cause nothing spells APB like “bad but has potential”

(PurpleNurple) #17

APB doesn’t publish a ban list. A player has a script running that posts all bans to her website. She has nothing to do with G1.

Closing this thread, as it has been addressed before by MM. Nexon has considered doing this, but decided against it for several reasons, one of them being the no naming and shaming policy.

This may change in the future, of course.
