Walking & other stuff

(CCP115) #1

When I say other stuff, I basically mean everything else in this game.

What on earth is walking even useful for? How does it affect other stuff?

It doesn’t seem to affect spread or recoil, I don’t see any point as to why it’s there.

makes you quieter in theory

Sorry if I’m hijacking this thread but it seems like it’s sort of in the same realm…

Other than using walk for being sneaky, is there ever any reason to not use sprint? Unlike Wolfenstein, it’s unlimited sprint so why isn’t it always on with a bind-able walk key? (like Quake) I’ve never tested it myself but I haven’t noticed anyone else slowing down to shoot because of spread or anything. (I know crouching helps now since the recent patch)

Holding shift makes my pinky numb after a long session and toggling it back on every spawn seems silly.

I’ve a tip for you:
Go in Settings>Controls>Advanced
put SPRINT MODE in TOGGLE SPRINT
put SPRINT CANCELS RELOAD in OFF

Now you have to press once per life the sprint touch. If you repop repress once the sprint touch.
Actually I think it’s the best way for always sprint.

Does infinite sprint in this manner have any downsides like less accuracy, or does shooting just return you back to regular move speed?

(Nail) #6

shooting stops sprint but there’s a transition time

(umberInlet) #7

@Nail I noticed at as well. It’s an half-sec long, but that can cost you your life in competitive play.

(CCP115) #8

All you need to do is set sprint to toggle.
By default you run, press Alt to walk, Shift to sprint, and Ctrl to crouch.

(pumpaloaf) #9

Thanks guys, I’m aware of the toggle feature, I’ve been using it for about a week now while my pinky mends itself.

My question is why should we have to hold or toggle it at all? It seems pointless when it could just be always on.

@Nail says shooting stops sprint but there’s a transition. -Does this mean it automatically toggles sprint when you’re shooting?

(Nail) #10

the transition is time between sprint and firing, not sure if stopping shooting would return to sprint, I don’t use toggles

(pumpaloaf) #11

Right, so you’re just holding it the whole time. Doesn’t that seem unnecessary?

(Szakalot) #12

if there is a transition period between stopping sprint and firing, having always-sprint-on puts you at a disadvantage.

(pumpaloaf) #13

I’m not sure I understand. Are you guys saying that you’re letting go of the sprint key to shoot? I’m under the impression that it’s happening automatically whether you’re holding sprint or if you’re using the toggle? If it’s happening automatically, I don’t see any reason for a sprint key at all.

(Szakalot) #14

im saying; during combat im not sprinting, as im too busy constantly shooting & juking the enemy player.

(pumpaloaf) #15

Okay, shooting, strafing, juking, of course. Me too, but I was always holding sprint during combat. Was this completely unnecessary? Was I just torturing myself and putting my delicate pinky through unneeded anguish?

I’m asking for clarification of how the sprint mechanic works. Maybe I should rephrase my original question: Other than using walk for being sneaky, is there ever any reason to not ALWAYS use sprint?

(Tomme) #16

@Pumpaloaf It is not about being sneaky all the time, moving from sprinting to instantly shooting incurs a slight delay - lifting up your gun to shoot. Now what is better is sprinting to near an enemy then just move around the corner, this allows you to shoot instantly thus giving you an advantage.

(pumpaloaf) #17

If that’s the case, what a clumsy mechanic for such a fast paced game. So tell me what happens when I’m using toggle sprint. Am I still incurring this slight delay before I shoot?

(Humbug) #18

yes… basically you should only sprint if you don’t expect an enemy or want to run away

(Tomme) #19

If you go from sprinting to shooting straight away, it will always be a tad slower, (not much at all) than going from just walking to shooting. I don’t think it is clumsy, it gives a very slight benefit to players who are prepared for their encounters.

There is an augment called “Quick Draw” which decreases the time to raise and lower your weapon by 30% which can help though.

(pumpaloaf) #20

I do have few cards equipped with Quick Draw on them. Maybe part of it is that or I just don’t notice the delay as much since my frames per second is garbage anyway?

Anyhow, thanks for the explanations. I just don’t get why they’d bother with this delay mechanic or not just make sprint always on with no penalty when very little else falls into the realism category in this game. You can run at super human speeds, a 115 pound female with a cricket bat can outright kill a burly man in mere seconds, you can bounce off the fucking walls while shooting machine guns and snipers can scope/jump shot with super human accuracy. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Run and gun? Nooooope… Run, briskly walk, then gun.
