No you didn’t. Nothing to apologise. It is true that everyone needs to get it’s inspiration from somewhere.
My moral says that it is wrong to rip of from someones virtual work, that being for example a map made by somebody else. Thus I don’t give much respect for the work that is mostly ripped off. The line is quite blurry tho it seems.
I for myself and projects that I involve hard or lead, I keep very tight line. For example we don’t rip of anything from anywhere, except for real life, don’t download even free textures from the net. In some occasions it is ok for me, if we can’t regocnise it (edited a lot), and if we are allowed/authorised to do so (use and edit). To use a single texture or such.
I consider “copying” or modelling real life obstacles/layouts or anything very acceptable. In fact I find it recommended.
These are my humble opinions.
