Wake Waves

(-SSF-Sage) #21

No you didn’t. Nothing to apologise. It is true that everyone needs to get it’s inspiration from somewhere.

My moral says that it is wrong to rip of from someones virtual work, that being for example a map made by somebody else. Thus I don’t give much respect for the work that is mostly ripped off. The line is quite blurry tho it seems.

I for myself and projects that I involve hard or lead, I keep very tight line. For example we don’t rip of anything from anywhere, except for real life, don’t download even free textures from the net. In some occasions it is ok for me, if we can’t regocnise it (edited a lot), and if we are allowed/authorised to do so (use and edit). To use a single texture or such.

I consider “copying” or modelling real life obstacles/layouts or anything very acceptable. In fact I find it recommended.

These are my humble opinions.

Did you claim it is yours? Yeah, you sure did …

From the thread " ‘wallhack’ - seeing thru wall "
i have a strange bug in my map… if i come too close to one wall, i can see thru it. how do i fix it?

In your map? Right…

From the thread " trap_R_LoadDynamicShader in 2.55? "
wow, this thread has almost as many views as my italy of streets…

there was a movie on youtube where ‘hacker’ was showing how to crash a 2.55 server. i will check if i have it in my ‘favourites’.
Yet again, you claim it is as your map, though it is not yours and, you were not the only one who worked on it, i saw a big list of credits, so it should be on “our map italy of streets or something like that”

Just to let you know that you did

lol. you interpretate it wrong. it’s like saying ‘i have problem with my phone’… what? did you make that phone? (it’s not a real quote from your posts).

(kamikazee) #24

Okay, enough with the allusions, nobody explicitly claimed the map as his own.

Now, did you find any good technique for making these waves?

(Pegazus) #25

Just to end this topic, still it is very wrong and very pathetic to decompile a map from another game, rework it to work for ET, imo.
But end of discussion…

Edit:
Oh, and to respond to your quote, it is actualy a big difference, in your example, that phone is bought by you, so you have all the rights to do what you want with it, so you can claim it as yours, but if i remember correctly, you did not even get to contact with the real owner of the map to ask if it is ok if you realease that map, or pay him for the rights if he asked.

(IndyJones) #26

well, then you are really wrong. i have spent a lot of time to get in touch with the author. i have even found one website wich seemed that file was posted by himself. i’ve sent him a pm, tried to get e-mail from administrator, but had no luck. i’ve been told by filefront administrator that if there is no e-mail, or anything to get in touch with author, it has a abandoned status. he is credited in readme.

the topic is over. if you want answers, you won’t get them. at least not here.

(-SSF-Sage) #27

Lol it seems that if you said “the map I’m working on” I think everyone would be happy.

Oh btw. An excection, I find acceptable to use the assets that came with the game, as probably anyone else here. Using the same style is ok aswell, but as it is overused by many mappers, I doubt it will be found very attractive. I’m done with the offtopic so far aswell.

Indy, these are holier than thou people who probably have never made a map in their lives. If they have, probably not very many. So you have standards, dont push them on others. The map I’m making was requested by the community. Just because I’m copying a layout doesnt mean I’m not laying each brush and texturing it too. Doesnt mean I havent spent much time and effort. So if you have a hair up your ass about someone elses map, keep your opinion to yourself.

Actually, nothing that looks very real. I’m still working on it. I will post my successful results soon.

Actualy i have nothing against you, i am happy becauze you work on your project and spend time on it not do the easy exit way, to just import another map.

Good luck  And would like to see that wave thing in action.

I feel the same. Good luck with your project. What comes to me, I have released several maps and have even more projects. Including about 20 half finished abandonned projects. I just tend to get interested in something else at some point of the existing project, and pick up the “more interesting”. Atm we have so great concept (in our opinion), that I doubt we’ll ever find a better one. It’s a matter of fact if we can present it how we want. And to inform you we have very high standards.

Edit. for the wake waves (behind the boat), have you tried adding brushes in a script_mover that is attached to the boat, with a “wave only” texture blending to full alpha (splashy water blending to invisible)? Would it work? Oh and add the tcmod scroll x x if needed, and you could also try some deformvertexes-functions.

Yeah, the concept is great, but to make it happen well, we will see, but it is going to be amazing that’s for sure

(Stealth) #32

I thank you guys for the positive reinforcement. =)

(-SSF-Sage) #33

Did you try what I explaned? I you should get atleast somekinda effect with that, tho I’m not exactly sure if you can do alpha blending on mobile brushes.

(Stealth) #34

Been busy with real life stuff. But I will try what you suggested, and I thank you.
