Wait. Who needs ammo?!?!

(Jimmy James) #1

I was playing my soldier/medic yesterday and kept running into this problem, which is a problem I’ve had since I started playing Brink.

In ET:QW, when someone used the voice chat and you heard, “I need ammo!”, or “Enemy disguised as uh… me!”, or “Medic!” the voice chat would actually display as text along with the name of the person.

I constantly find myself looking around in vain when I hear people asking for ammo or a revive or whatever. It’s very frustrating and I was wondering what other people’s opinions were regarding this issue.

It would be nice if SD could add this feature to Brink in a patch because I need to know who is asking for what.

some sort of visual cue would be cool

I could be wrong here, but I believe the system relies on you using the mission wheel.
So if you hear someone saying " ive stepped on a mine"… you go into your menu system and select it. Then they will be highlighted in game.

This method is much better though  :

The question is, were VSAYs removed by intentional design or just another victim of a limited development budget? I guess if I want to be really pushy I have to ask how, during all the internal testing, this clearly a big flaw in team communication wasn’t found?

(Slade05) #6

Come on, disappearing sound wasnt found, and youre asking for some lowly vsay!

(SockDog) #7

Well I’m assuming the PC version got very little testing at the hardware level but the fact that you very quickly get caught short of ammo or support and have no way of alerting your team seems to be something that would have come up very early in testing. As I said, maybe it was something caught but just never addressed, it’s not like we didn’t discuss it and things like mission selection many many times.

(Humate) #8

I would say its a design decision.

there is a visual cue in the radar…basically the teamate grey dot changes to an ammo symbol - not great and still nowhere near a replacement for vsays.

(Jimmy James) #10

Ah, I was wondering about this. Truthfully, I never really use the radar as I find it to be severely lacking in detail, but I’ll definitely check it out next time I hear a teammate call for supplies.

Thanks for the tip,

Yeah, this is frustrating. I chalked it up to just another failure of porting a game like this to console. It doesn’t ruin the game or anything but it’s frustrating. (PS3)

I actually think the porting was done to PC this time around. That’s not to say X360 led and PS3 got a port of sorts too but it’s clearly built with console in mind as a priority.

I think you can set your wheel to focus on giving people ammo. I’ve never bothered checking or what-have-you… But if you can do it with the medic, I don’t see why you can’t with the soldier.
Hell, if I can get objectives to “spot mines” and “hack turrets” as an operative, I don’t see why they wouldn’t do that. :stuck_out_tongue:

But either way - I don’t pay attention to any of that. I just TRY [read: accidentally] to keep my eye on their ammo-counter under their names… Sometimes with my elite skill [read: luck] I’m able to catch them before their avatar’s start crying for help.
