Vote on the "knife"

A “SD” member yesterday told me to come to the forums to create a poll so we could get a clear idea on what the community think of the knife.

Personally I think it is WAY too overpowered and in close combat it beats both pistol AND the SMGs.

Going to make 4 suggestions here as there is more than one thing I think, personally, is wrong with the knife right now! So vote for what you think about it and hopefully we see something changed with it soon! :slight_smile:

shorter and lower damage. with instakill alt-knife in small spot on the back. with knife icon indicator.
slash less damage than stab, but stab slower with a smaller hit area.

I have voted for both but i’d like to be more specific on my vote. I would only like to see the damage lowered from the sides and front. Keep the back as instant kill because its not as if you would ever turn your back on a gunfight! (and if you did you deserve a good knifing :smiley: )

Indeed, the knife is often picked over secondary weapon in small/cqc range combat.
I’m all for reduced front/side damages while keeping instakill from the back.

reduce range and damage

Need some numbers. Like what is damage to player. Also there are two knife modes, maybe they do different damage.

The only thing i found a bit too much was the effective radius of knife attack 1. It has almost 160 degrees area of effect, that is way too much imo. Especially when you walk orthogonal next to a wall the knife does impact to the wall, that was suprising to me at first and something which seemed “unnatural in FPS”.

How it is about range to front i don’t know, need some numbers :slight_smile: I think there was a thread with pics somewhere :slight_smile: Seeing from this thread i would say reduce the range to front just slightly.

I really wouldn’t mind having the mod privilege to merge threads. I’d be merging them all day.

Range definitely needs to be shorter.

I wouldn’t say the overall damage necessarily needs to be less, but it could do with a couple of balancing tweaks.

  • Increase backpedal speed
  • More of a damage bias to rear hits (less damage from from, more to rear)

I hate the knife. Especially when -Cup is using it. :slight_smile: It really just seems more effective than secondary weapons and has that COD/BF feel which I have always hated.

Never liked the goat sound.

My vote is for an increase in move back speed, that way you can actually get away from the knife.

This here. Being able to sprint in every direction would be quite nice as well. You can run pretty fast backwards in real life, so it wouldn’t be anti-realistic, but also it would help the game mechanics especially regarding knife.
