Vote Kicking

(Iinky) #1

I’m sure this has been mentioned before but a pretty simple quality of life increase can be made with making the voting system less of an abortion, especially with this game being F2P with currently no real working anticheat.

Currently you can only vote kick your own team members, the person being vote kicked auto votes no for some reason, seems to require everyone on the team to vote yes

IMO it needs to be changed to

  • allow vote kicking enemy team players
  • changing the requirements for a successful vote - having it require a majority from the amount of votes cast, not from the amount of people in the server/team and change the requirement of EVERYONE voting yes to just 51% or 60%
  • person being kicked auto voting no being removed (let them vote no on their own

I’ve encountered quite a number of blatant cheaters and it’s more or less impossible to kick them, which is utterly absurd and a testament to how much of an abortion the current voting system is. I’ve also seen opinions against allowing vote kicking of enemy team members because people would just try to kick the enemy teams best player - from my experience in games where it’s possible to vote kick enemy players, I’ve never come across this - the worst I’ve seen is exploiting kick votes in quake 3 by people that would load in first and any vote they call would instantly pass due to being the only one in the server at the time.

“wow that guy on the enemy team is destroying us”
“yeah, we better kick them”
wonderful

Allowing calling a vote on opposite team players will turn into votecalling feast, where players from opposite teams will constantly try to votekick top players in opposite team. And then, in retaliation, same will happen in return.
Maybe allowing opposite team players to vote still, but give them like 0.5 vote value per vote cast.
Changing a requirements from 51% to something else and make it based only on actually voting players will make kicking way 2 easy, especially if theres squad of friends playing.

I have never seen vote kick abuse in the way you both describe in any game, not in any game using idtech engines 1/2/3/4(all quakes, rtcw/et, majority of cods etc) or source engine games(cs/css/tf2/hl/hl2 etc).

there’s also the hole in that argument in why would his team vote yes?

even with the incredibly unlikely abuse you’re describing, there’s the huge benefit of actually being able to kick hackers - the only potential abuse I’d see that’s actually likely is when there’s a group of people in a server and they have a majority, free reign on vote kicking.

“Ive never seen” is hardly an counterargument that counts as “a hole”(huge or otherwise). Ive seen it happen in plenty of games, since opposite team players are far more motivated to get rid of top player in enemy team. Combined with general passive attitude and plain jealousy(why hes first, i wannt to be first), quite often there will be enough votes to vote out players who carry a team.
On top of that basic psychology kicks in - its one thing when you yourself call a vote on a player, jealosy or not, meaning that his kick would be on you; and its another when some1 else does it, eg “im just one of many, its not my fault that he got kicked” approach.
And problem with hacker kicks not going thru is not percentage of votes needed or ability to call votes on opponents team players, but general “i dont give a frak” and “win at any cost” attitude, supplemented by extremely crappy implementation of voting system.

I realise this is anecdotal evidence as well but I too have played innumerable games with vote kick including all previous splash damage gAmes extensively and have barely ever seen it abused to kick good players. On the other hand I have seen it used thousands of times to kick afk players, cheaters and toxic behavior.

Even more, the few times that there’s been some annoying player continuously trying to kick the top player on the other team inevitably that person gets kicked themselves

vote abuse was never really a problem in RTCW or W:ET because servers nearly always had admins on to police behaviour

Not to plug another game, but if you want to see how bad such a voting system can be check out AVA. You get votekicked in that game for being too good, too bad, too afk, doing too much objectives or simply because someone wants to open up a spot for a friend (It most certainly is not fun if you can’t complete 80% of your matches because you get kicked).

If the enemy could votekick you. You can forget to play certain unpopular Mercs. Oh enemy has a Phantom/Nader/Vassili better get rid of him.

Granted the current system is not perfect and you can forget to get a skill vote through (someone will always have a win x games mission).
But a kickvote because of cheating more often then not will pass if initiated right. Here is what you gotta do to make me and others votekick someone on our team. Raise awarness in chat (be nice, you want to have someone kicked and yelling at us wont help your cause) that you suspect someone is cheating, this will make people pay closer attentions to killmessages and take a look over that guys shoulders. If the claim holds through people will most likely initiate a votekick and boot them off.

Meanwhile hop into specmode get some evidence and report that guy afterwards.

You really think this does anything what so ever? I’ve opened numerous support tickets during Dirty Bomb’s lifetime about cheaters and never once have I gotten a reply or acknowledgement, its bad enough we have to wait over a month for a reply from Nexon about mundane account issues let alone cheater related ones…

We arnt talking about subtle or smart cheaters either, we are talking about blatant ones shooting people through half the map worth of walls or doing 360’s in objective rooms headshotting people instantly

honestly its like half the people in this thread have zero clue and this is why using the Nexon forums for anything is a waste of time in the grand scheme of things, pack of idiots push their own little agenda and everyone else gets pushed to the bottom, funny really

Encountered someone using an aimbot today. Switched to spectate, recorded, submitted a ticket, and received acknowledgement within an hour that it had been passed on for review.

What more do you want? They aren’t going to get in touch to say “Hey guy, that player you reported? WE GOT HIM! Here, have a cookie.” - that just isn’t how things work. Reporting in any game tends to be a blind faith process, you do your part, and leave it to support to do theirs.

Going the route of “submitting reports does nothing” is ridiculous - if the evidence is there, of course they’ll do something about it. It’s in their best interests to do so. Whether sufficient evidence is actually provided is another thing entirely, though.

a vote system where you can actually kick hackers would be a nice start

the hole I was referring to was the part where I was questioning why the ‘good’ players team would vote yes?

and tbh ignoring the hole in the argument, and my lack of experience seeing it happen, I would much prefer the possibility of minor vote kick abuse along with the actual ability of kicking a hacker from a server than the current abortion of a vote system which makes it more or less impossible to kick a hacker …

then moving on to the reporting hackers quandary - even if the report system were efficient, it’s a free to play game, the current ban system will not prevent them from being able to make a new account and continue on their merry way

(Sephios) #12

I agree with the guy above.
There are ENOUGH kids on this game.

It’s going to be abused, whatever you want to accept it or not.

Getting destroyed -> kick one enemy player.

Also, I’ve been playing from Silver 2 to Gold 1, and the hackers I’ve been against were 3.

(Dirmagnos) #13

I have mentioned a simple jealousy. Or how about “hes not playing as i wannt him to play” approach.
Just yday i had a game with one of those self-entitled asses, who were cursing and kussing practically every1 on out team, because they were “playing it wrong”.
And yeah, reporting system is an absolute crap right now, there is no argument there.

(RuleofBooKz) #14

well if u were playing it wrong why didnt u play it right and stop antagonizing the poor guy?

(Iinky) #15

imo pretty basic pro’s/con’s

current system
pros - ???

cons - still possible to abuse kick system if you’ve got a large group in a server

  • more or less impossible to kick a hacker so effectively everyone that joins will have to find another server to join

a fixed voting system
pros - you can kick hackers

cons - potential vote kick abuse? so only one person will have to find a new server in the unlikely event of it happening?

(neg) #16

I think you completely misunderstood what I was saying, I was saying I have never once received acknowledgement of them receiving any of the evidence/submissions and we are talking about blatant cheaters shooting through multiple walls…

Reality is the game is going to be pushed even further into the ground before they do anything about the cheaters constantly running around Pub/MM servers

Fixed vote kick system and numerous other features (ingame reporting of cheaters + proper demo system) is required so then the players can police the game for the developers properly otherwise rip db
