Something that I find very lacking in Dirty Bomb are voice commands. They exist but I have to go through a very annoying menu in order to use them. A game like TF2 dedicates voice commands to different keys and it’s a quick 2 key press in order to pick a group and select a command. Dirty bomb puts them all together with one large menu and 3 keys to press. TF2 also puts something like calling for a medic on it’s own separate key. I mostly use Voice commands for medic calling or requesting ammo and it’s annoying to navigate a menu, hoping I won’t get shot, to find the correct command. There isn’t even a way to set them up with hotkeys from what I can find.
Voice Commands
Yeah I thought about it too.
Some commands need to be removed in general (such as “enemy weakened”, “command acknowledged/declined” and etc.) and the commands that are not removed should be moved to a separate menu.
Menu 1 should be for global stuff (gg, yes, no, sorry, thanks, nice shot, noob PDP and etc.). JK about the last one
Menu 2 should be for all the team stuff (medic, ammo, sorry, yes, no, thanks and etc.)
Menu 3 should be for info/commands (defuse/plant, destroy/repair/escort EV, let’s go, path is clear, the enemy is defusing/planting/repairing and etc.)
Menu 4 should be for all the taunts/emotes (it can stay as it is now)
Also some commands should automatically be changed depending on the side you are on and situation. We don’t need to have the option to say “destroy the primary objective” on defense on Bridge. That makes no sense
For example: If you are attacking on Chapel, pressing c (assuming that’s the key for menu 3) and then 1 will say “repair the EV” OR “escort the EV” (depending if it’s already repaired or not). But if you are defending pressing C and then 1 will say “disable the EV” or “don’t let them repair the EV” (again, depends of the EV state). But after the EV is escorted pressing C-1 on attack will say “deliver the objective” and defense will say “return the objective”.
On Trainyard pressing C-1 on attack will say “plant the C4” or “defend the bomb” but on defense it will say “defend the objective” or “defuse the C4”.
I can keep going with this but you get the point.
Also we need an option to bind specific voice messages to keys (like binding “medic” to E)
I just memorise the important ones like ammo and medic (and “aww yeah” so i can spam “KAWAII” easily) and then quite often just use voice comms.
I’ve memorized the ones I use mostly and it takes me less than a second to do most of them. Honestly, most people don’t pay attention to voice commands unless if it’s Medic or Ammo. Everything else is noise to a lot of people.
I was thinking about that too, at the end I find myself writing what I want to say, easier. Maybe there’s a way to bind those statements or orders to other keys by configuring one of the .cfg’s. That’s what I did for years in other games : my voice commands+writing “macros” were bind to my numerical and directions keypads.
v52, they are fine, just get used to them, you also ignored the fact that there you have 5 times more commands than in tf2
I’d be happy just being able to bind a key to a specific voice command. That way, I don’t have to fumble through the menu to quickly ask for a revive or ammo, which is pretty much the only reason I’d ever use the voice menu anyway.
Sometimes typing is even more efficient than voice command. They do need to change it, personally, I would like them to move character’s quote to menu instead of you have to press 4 times to use them
So wait, how can someone find pressing “U”, then typing “medic” and hitting Enter more efficient than pressing v21 in rapid succession? That is 3 keypresses less, you lose no mobility while doing it if you’ve set your movement keys right, you won’t be completely still and useless while doing so,…
Just what ._. Oh and not to mention when hitting v21 you’re giving your teams medics audio que alongside the quickchat.
I’m sorry, but “I have to go through a very annoying menu in order to use them?” First of all, it’s not annoying. It’s actually quick and easy if you tap the keys quickly & fast. And if you keep using it, you’ll eventually memorize some of the commands. It’s not that difficult.

It’s not necessarily about being difficult to do but being more efficient. There are so many commands to go through many people like myself rarely even bother using the thing. Being able to bind a voice command such as Medic or Ammo to one key is quicker and easier.
Some of the stuff could be easier to access, maybe a radial menu of some kind with some of the important ones would be helpful, like in BF2, in addition to the more detailed responses. I’ve got nearly all of them totally memorised though so I can harass whatever server I’m in with a choice of Proxy’s “Top of the morning to ya”, Phantom’s “Yes.” or my new favourite - Rhino screaming “NEED A MEDIC!!!”. The only ones I don’t use very often are the command ones under option 3 I believe, though I do like to throw out a “Clear those mines” every now and then. Keeps them on their toes.
If I’m playing DB and talking to someone at the same time on mumble/TS/Skype/real life I find I say “Yes” and “No” ingame to whatever they are saying, even if they aren’t playing or know anything about the game at all. Maybe I have a problem :x
Unreal Tournament 99 had a voice bind menu… you know back in 1999.
Just add one to DB.
