Voice chat commands?

(Mustkunstn1k) #1

I think I have seen some discussion about it, but I am not sure on the final anwser. I have also never seen these actually being used in the game so far.
So my question is… are there voice chat commands? Like those little voice clips like there are in ET, ETQW and also games made by Valve: CS, TF2, L4D etc.

I know your character can have like 8 different voices and it would make sense that you can use those voices. And I have heard a lot of people saying things in the game (“Mucho bad guys spotted”), but I was kind of wondering if they were automatical or if you could trigger them…

Here’s my take on them:

Benefits:

  1. Basic communication
People who don’t have a mic can say things fast without having to type them.

  2. Dynamic objectives
I remember in ETQW they touted a system where you can point at something and say attack and it would create a mission for some team members. Same goes for if you need health from a medic etc. It would be pretty intersting if you could say “I need a medic” and a little symbol would pop up above your head like in TF2. Makes it a lot faster.

  3. Bots
Some of the previews mention how it’s difficult to play with bots because there is no way to communicate. They all do their thing. But with voice commands it would be a lot easier. If you would say “Cover me” then some bots would come near you etc.

It doesn’t really even have to be that complicated. Some games had the numbered box system, but I think a radial menu would work just fine. Similiar to L4D, BF and ETQW. All in all I think we only need one menu too, because some options could expand into new radial menus. This could help with the fact that consoles have less buttons. For example one of the choices in the menu is

“I need…”

and after that a new menu pops out where you can select

“a medic”
“ammo”
“covering fire”

I know this probably won’t work on the consoles (not enough buttons), but it would be a good feature on the PC.

AFAIK there are no VSAYS. They were removed due to the auto-chatter system’s implementation.

Don’t have a link, but one of the videos which mentions voices in-game says that the characters automatically call “Medic!” and “I need ammo!” at appropriate times, and that only the appropriate character class will hear those shouts - and that player will then be a selectable objective in the objective wheel, so you can flag them to find their location.

Also, when you select an objective, it will call it out to ALL friendly players so they know what you’re doing - added incentive to use the objective wheel - alongside the XP bonus for completing a selected objective.

im gonna miss the “bullseye” vsay from etqw :frowning:

Good thing its 8vs8 players then, otherwise i can imagine chat being a bit cluttered up with all kinds of auto-needs.

Also the request wheel is a good idea. Surely they must have implemented something like that.

I would really miss them if they are not in.game

(trigg3r) #11

hope they are, i love fooling around with the voice commands in TF2, and they are really helpfull for ppl not using a mic.

@OP’s picture:

The “back” button on XBox controller (and the “select” button in roughly the same place for PS3) have different effects in various games, but in MOST online games, they’re the “show scoreboard” button, but they’re often also used for the “map” function if there is one - also, the “map” option is the most common use in single-player games.

I’ll personally miss the v-says, but I won’t miss the spamming idiots. One of those trade-offs I guess

(Crytiqal) #14

no vsays :frowning:

Then how are we going to taunt the enemy?

I will miss them surely, RIP :frowning:

(Mustkunstn1k) #15

Well, there could easily be systems for countering spam. Like making sure people won’t oversue them etc. Like there could be a time limit for saying similiar things and you can’t say too many things in a row.

(Herandar) #16

True, but hella easier just to remove it.

(Striker92) #17

there was a limit to v-says in etqw and it worked fine imo. The only thing spammed was text. Players would bind random text to a key and spam it the whole game, caused a lot of rage. Well atleast thats what happened in aust. new Aust players beware lol

(DarkangelUK) #18

The limit for one person was fine sure, but when you had 10 idiots all spamming the vsays, the delay between them was meaningless.
