Vista & Radiant 1.5 won't display

(Miki) #1

Hi all,

Long time ago, but I wanna get back to mapping! Anyway, I run vista (home premium 32 bit) now, and when I’m, trying to open Radiant, I get this :

As you can see, the menu’s are loaded correctly, but texture, camera and 2D view don’t work.
I knew there was some post like this some time ago, but searching dind’t help me find it back.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Thanks in advantage,

Special note for Vista-users:
You have to disable the desktop-styling in the properties of GtkRadiant.exe! In case of wrong menu-rendering you can switch to the “Raleigh” gtk-skin.
The gtk-theme can be changed in [install-folder]/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.
Taken from http://www.qeradiant.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi

If that wont work, you can always (like I did) change the program compatibility to run on windows 98 and also disable visual themes.

Hope it solves your problem

The ‘windows 98’ thing did the trick :open_mouth: I’ve tried that theme thing before, (I said I used search ;-)) but it didn’t change anything to the rendering windows.
Even windows XP doesn’t work, but windows 98 seems to do the trick! Thanks!

I had that probelm first too yes.
Tried all the compatibility modes and windows 98 seemed to work xd

Well the only strange thing I have, is the fact that I got some white ‘quads’ showing on my screen, but when I reselect something else, there gone for a few sec, but I guess I can live with that

Well maybe u can install xp on another partition and create dualboot?
I’m using windows 7 and windows xp both.

XP for level editing, programming and stuff and win 7 web developping etc =)

It will get annoying to switch from XP to W.7 all the time.

Anyways Miki, I know there is a way to get 1.5 run perfectly & smoothly on Windows Vista. I got it running on my bros laptop, just need to re-call my steps.
Give me some time and I’l have the results on your desk by tommorow :infiltrator:

I run 1.4 and 1.5 on Vista. I start em both as administrator, do not use windows 98 comp or any others. I did turn off “Visual themes” and “desktop…something” off. Not sure what the right english translations are. Works fine. Only thing is I cant make new map files with 1.4, but editing works fine.

It all depends on the Vista version you got and the graphics card. For me I need to run on windows98 and disable visual themes, nothing else.

1.4 has that issue, it’s been mentioned around here many times.
