Very slow startup?

(Piemonkey) #1

Alright, I’ve had this problem since I first installed Enemy Territory a few years ago, where when I open up the .exe file to play the game, be it on desktop or game folder, the console pops up and takes upwards of 4 minutes just to start loading files and get into the game. That means, the first 4 minutes is comprised of the console taunting me with its inactivity.

At first, I chalked it up to low RAM (256mb), but when I upgraded to 512mb a few years ago, it remained the same. I didn’t think much of it, but now that I have 1.5gb of RAM, I’m starting to wonder if the files are corrupt or if there’s an issue I haven’t picked up.

Is there anyone who can help me with this? I’ve re-installed completely, cleaned the registries, etc.

PieMonkey

Do you have a SLOW internet connection, because mine seems to hang around in the console or grey screen after console for a long time if my connection is running slow for some reason.

If not I’m afraid I can’t really help you too much.

Also this post might get a better response in the GENERAL DISCUSSION forum than in here.

maybe should it help to quit all programs thats possible.

I mean the programms right-down in the corner in Windows XP

I have Rogers Hi-Speed, very fast internet.

Yes, I’m running McAfee VirusScan, but it never gives a problem with any other game, including Steam games.

I’ve tried closing all programs and unnecessary process.

I’ll try disabling autoupdate, thanks.

Alright, nothing changed.

try to download yourself something like quake3 demo (or full) or wolf: rtcw
they run the same engine… so you probaply have to wait for 4 minutes with those games too. if not then =-?

There was a similar problem in RTCW. The screen was grey for several minutes. IIRC there wasn’t a single solution (video driver settgins or DNS problems caused this AFAIK). Use google

RTCW boots up perfectly…
