Very Simple Way To Bring Thunder Up To Standards

(Just_A_Waffle) #1

So, at the moment, Thunder is kind of underwhelming. When you do finally figure out how to use him, you end up being a double-edged sword, bedazzling your allies with flashbangs, and making yourself a nuisance.

Anyways, let’s talk about Thunder’s Main problems at the moment.

  1. His LMG:
His LMG is kind of meh at the moment. It has very similar (If not exact) damage compared to the KEK. I feel that if we bumped the damage up on the LMG by even 2 damage per bullet, it would be a much better tool to use in combat.

  2. Concussion Mechanics
This is the main point of this post. His concussion grenade has lots of issues, but here are the most prominent:

-YOU CAN FLASHBANG YOUR TEAMMATES.
This is the biggest downfall of Thunder at the moment. Whenever I play Thunder I end up throwing a flashbang right into the enemy’s area, and somehow end up flashing all of my team mates, leading to us getting slaughtered instead of the other way around. Just give all our allies some sweet shades to protect them from friendly flashbangs. Problem solved.

-The range on the flashing of the grenade is pretty insane, while the concussion is tiny.
I throw a concussion grenade all the way across the lane in the first part of Trainyard, and I still get flashbanged (even when I look away), despite the grenade being half a mile away. Whereas the concussion part (the part that disables deployables and give you a “+10 -Concussed” bonus) is very tiny.
Just reduce the range of the flashing and increase the range of the concussion a bit.

  1. HP seems a bit low
When you consider how freaking huge his backpack is, he becomes an easy target. If you occupy the entire space of the crosshairs, you should probably have more HP. I think if we just nudged it up to 175HP he would be good to go.

Feel free to leave any suggestions/stories below I guess.

  1. He gains the potential of roughly 90 damage (if all 85 bullets hit) per point of damage of his LMG buffed, so yes this would be reasonably significant and hopefully make up for his lackluster kill potential.

  2. Team problem is confirmed a bug iirc and yes, the range is absurd and should be fixed.

  3. 170-180 hp would be fair given his huge head hitbox

He’s fine. You just need to stick around with your team. I find when using him if I run around by myself like I do on some other characters I end up bottom of the scoreboard getting nothing done. But when I stick close to the team I top the scoreboard and he just wrecks the enemy team.

First and foremost we fix the bugs, then we go from there with balancing Thunder.

How about we only bump the damage on the Mk46 by 1 or increase the RPM to 750? 12 damage would bump the DPS to 145 while increasing the RPM to 750 increases it to 138.

His Concussion Grenade needs to be fixed. It’s kind of silly that it effects allies, if you use the logic it should effect allies than by that same logic so should Frag Grenades.

As for his health. I’m a bit hesitant to agree to that. His health is the one thing I’ve heard people admire. Seems like it’s in a good place. Could slim down his hit box a little. Very least his pack shouldn’t be considered part of him.

@“Grave Knight” when playing thunder you won’t feel like having 160 hp imo

Why is everyone making threads about thunder, listing known bugs and saying how bad he is when the bugs aren’t even fixed yet. Like @Watsyurdeal said, let’s wait till they fix bugs then see what thunder is really like.

Hitbox might be a little big. I feel it’s not as big of a deal as everyone says it is. Fragger’s hitbox is nearly as big. Perhaps they could make the backpack a bit more narrow, that’s what makes him the most noticeable for me.

I know I said this before but it still boggles my mind as to how the lmg is considered so bad. I guess I’ll see for myself when I get it soon, at 42k.

I don’t think he is thunderwhelming… But the bugs do need to be fixed… as @Watsyurdeal says, then make some balance changes if necessary

What I think the biggest problem with thunder is, is that your flashbangs always seem to flash your entire team, which makes it not fun to play with a thunder on your team. I actually tend to avoid the thunder if my team has one, just so I do not die due to my team’s own grenade.

Is there a list of THunder bugs I can have a look at? Or some sort of collection?

I’m only aware of bugs to do with the flashbang, so surely we could attempt to balance out his gun and health.

HIs 160 HP is the highest in the whole game excluding Rhino’s, and he also is extremely slow and fat.
It’s obvious this is how SD likes to balance out mercs. The questions should be whether or not his weapons and overall role allow this HP to be worth it. I would gladly say yes, I fought Thunders many times last I played, and I can safely say he is almost the 1v1 king, but that title does belong to someone else.

I do want a small concussion nerf, and also can we add conc jumping? Just some small jumps, just for the lols if you know what I mean.

well, if you think that his mg is underwhelming you may want to know that some thunders are literally sniping with the MK46 in at least 5 of the dozens of games I played today

in one of the games 2 of them killed roughly 1/3 of my team from the balcony with the mg in Chapel, only using their MK46 while crouching

it was a massacre without headshots

The mg doesn’t necessarily have a great range, it’s a great gun overall though. Great dps, rof, amazing magazine size and a manageable spread.

@CCP115
I don’t know a lot of bugs but they do hamper your gameplay a ton. It has a self flash which isn’t that bad right? The problem is that it’s infinite range. Unless you just look at the opposite direction you simply get blinded and you can’t take advantage of your concussed victims. Sometimes even if you look away you still get blinded.

Team flashing is a thing which you may know about. I think this should be removed, or at the very least reduced. It’s not like airstrikes hurt teammates and people can walk through molotovs too, I’m sure you can think of your own examples. I think teammates should be able to take advantage of your concussed victims.

I gotta say that Thunder gets stronger and stronger the more I play DB. He’s still not OP yet, but still could use a nerf.

And I think a brief flash on teammates would be enough. There should still be some effect to discourage reckless flashing, similar to how explosions don’t HURT teammates but the smoke can disorient and block vision for a second.
