VERY poor ATI performances - what's the exact status on this matter?
I have two machines, both with ATI cards…

first machine running with 11.5a rc3, averaging between 20/25fps
3.2ghz i3 processor
4GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 5670

second machine running 11.5a rc3, averaging between 40/50fps
2.4ghz quad core Q6600
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1.5gb ram

So what is the problem here, why is my second machine running better than my first, even tho I would say its worse with less ram and crap quad core ( BRINK doesnt even use half the cores lolz. ) fair my card is better but not by much. I want to play it on my first machine because my second machine has problems, the HDD is failing, the dvd drive is broke and my fan is about to stop working.

ooo also these FPS’s are with the lowest settings, if I have them on med, the game just decides to play like a slideshow.
With 11.5a rc3 drivers and the latest Brink patch I can run Brink on everything on max except for AO and AA turned off. 70-100+ FPS and 40+ on certain maps or certain areas.

Here’s my setup:

Q6600 @ 3.4
HD 4870 512
4 GB RAM

Q6600 is not crap

Why? Because the random people posting Scrooge McDuck images are more believable? They fixed the gridding in a few days. It’s obvious they’re attending to things.

So all you wanted was for them to tell you the people posting scrooge images are wrong? Anyone could have told you that.

I’m sure they’ll send you the source code ASAP. Listing specs and posting a dxdiag is not “technically sophisticated”. Unless someone directly asks a user to do something and they promptly respond there’s not much else to do to contribute.

I already did.

I Cannot use 11.5a RC3, because it gives me an instant CTD when joining a server…
Same with RC1 and 2, but fine with 11.3. Anyone else having this problem?

thanks. i didnt get the sarcasm in the first place. got it now. ignore what i was saying.

(is it just me or is the sarcasm rate in this forum increasing since brink release?)

Hey Guys,

could you please post your system setup and the resolution you’re playing at?!?

My Setup:
Intel E8400 @ 3,0GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
ATI 5850 HD
Resolution: 1920x1080 (24" monitor)

Driver: 11.2

I’ve tried playing with 11.5a RC3 but my FPS dropped from 30-60 to something around … hmm … maybe 5-10 ? -.- (Like ATI said … ‘Performance patch’ … FAIL)
So i went back to 11.2 .

Great news CFX users.

“Brink CF profile should be ready in next few days or so- will be supported in Catalyst 11.5a hotfix RC4 build (will let you know when ready)”

Hopefully it will not only add Crossfire support but some overall performance and stability fixes.

Yea i get the game closing to desktop of its own accord, from very random moments. Some can be when connecting to a server, others when looking at the awards at end of round, loading a new map etc Seems to be very intermittent, sometimes can play for an hour, others 10 mins and it will auto close game.

I also have a similar setup to yours:
Win7 64bit
Core i5 750
amd HD5850 1gb
4GB Ram

I was running 11.4 drivers as they were stable for me, but i updated to 11.5a hotfix got higher FPS but started random CTD. Then i rolledback and now 11.4 are unstable, i shall try 11.3 tommorrow. Hoping it will give me a stable game.

^^

Sup fellow ATI Radeon HD 5850 brother. I crash with 11.5a also. I have found 11.2 drivers to give the best performance. You may want to give it a go.

Intel Core 2 Duo E68500 3ghz
4 gig ram
Win 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD5850

(cowabunga!) #149

On configuration:
Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3GHZ (1333 bus)
Asus p5n32-e sli plus
6gb ram ddr2-800
Win 7 64-bit
ATI Radeon HD5870 1GB (Catalyst 11.5a rc3 / Catalyst 11.4)

i have 20-30 fps (1680x1050 - very low graphics (all off, r_shadows 0, r_useHDAO 0))

My friend on a same map and on a same moment (with me on a same server) with Geforce 460 have 60 fps stable (1680x1050 - very high graphics (all ON - except shadows - normal, and vert sync off).

WTF ???

Possible the reason is following - “We have had closer relationships with Nvidia over the years, and my systems have had Nvidia cards in them for generations. We have more personal ties with Nvidia. As I understand it, ATI/AMD cards are winning a lot of the benchmarks right now for when you straight-out make synthetic benchmarks for things like that, but our games do get more hands-on polish time on the Nvidia side of things. Nvidia does have a stronger dev-relations team. […] When you have got the dev-relation team that is deeply intertwined with the development studio, that tends to make your hardware, in some cases, come out better than what it truly is, because it’s got more of the software side behind it,” said Mr. Carmack.

Phenom II x4 965 BE 3.2 ghz

xp 32-bit

11.5 rc3 has given me the best fps so far but it still drops below 50 at some point on pretty much every map. Oddly enough I get better performance if I keep some eye candy on. This is just an outright mess that makes even Black Ops look well coded.

Same for me, I tried 11.5a RC3 last night and although it showed a small improvement over the other recent drivers 11.2 still gives me the best performance by far, and that’s still pretty ropey.

Most people should see performance increases in Brink with Catalyst 15.a RC3 (see sticky for download link).

Crossfire users will need to wait on Catalyst 15.a RC4, which should include a Crossfire Application Profile for Brink.

Got a e8400 and a ati 5850. With Catalyst 11.2 i got something around 30-60 FPS @1920x1080 Details: medium.

With the Catalyst 11.5a RC3 i got about 10 fps …

(ilyama999) #154

Hello

Very glad to have this game but with every driver tested (11.2 -> 11.5 RC3) I’ve got bad bad performance …

Please don’t hide you behind this RC3 driver, this game need a serious patch …
I don(t play before this patch …

Go to work

What he said.

RC3 does nothing.

A number of people who’ve posted are seeing by far the best performance on 5x Radeons with the 11.2 drivers, I just hope the driver team at AMD who you’re liaising with are aware of that.

For me the difference is significant. Performance with RC3 was only marginally better than the previous 11.5a release candidate, which in turn was no better than 11.5/11.4/11.3, but the difference when running on 11.2 is like night and day.

(Erkin) #157

Thanks for the response Badman.

Just a tiny increase of FPS unfortunately.
I don’t hope that this issue will be fixed by ATI but rather than a patch of your game.
I mean, with my ATI card, i haven’t problems with other ID tech 4/openGL titles, in ETQW i have above 200 fps while in Brink i play at 30 FPS.

Any news/info on the CTD with 11.5a RC3 on 5850?

(H3ady) #159

Another strange thing is, that my E8400 @3GHz runs the hole time when i play at over 90% Oo

Is my CPU to slow for that game at a resolution of 1920x1080 ?

(Crispy) #160

If you have a Core 2 Duo then your CPU is close to minimum, not recommended spec.

I would recommend setting Texture Quality to Low to reduce CPU load in Brink.
