VERY poor ATI performances - what's the exact status on this matter?

i also have a 4870 and have no problems with the drivers. i suggest you give it another try and make sure you follow the install instructions exactly. maybe you made a mistake at some point or forgot something.

remove current drivers
remove leftovers with driver sweeper
reboot
run genetix_cleanup.cmd as ADMINISTRATOR (right click on file) and let it install everything it needs (.net, runtimes, etc)
DO NOT RESTART when prompted
run genetix_install.cmd
restart your system
done

when you rebooted after the last step it opens a dos window to launch the ccc at windows start to finish the optimizations. this didnt work for me, but i think its not necessary (i dont even have the ccc installed, i use radeonpro). it works ingame and thats all that counts for me.

Naaaa I dont even think that my E8400 @3ghz is bottlenecking this game. BFBC2 is considered to be very cpu limitating. And yes i got some fps issues first secs after i spawn but than the game runs really smooth. faaaaaaaaaaaar smoother than brink does. Without knowing the code of Brink. what should be more cpu demanding in brink than in Bfbc2 wich allows twice the players, destructureable buildings and the better graphics?! This is a bad coding or ati issue or whatever. only thing im sure about, its not my fault

i am certain i did everything right. it gave me the error message posted in others threads “drivers don’t support opengl 3.1 or higher blabla”. im not saying they wont work for anyone, but not for me.
edit: dx games started without problems tho. but im reverted to 11.3 now and i think i am as happy as this bugfix cobbling can make me for now. im hoping so much for a decent official fix, otherwise this game won’t last long, would be a shame.

I have two machines, both with ATI cards…

first machine running with 11.5a rc3, averaging between 20/25fps
3.2ghz i3 processor
4GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 5670

second machine running 11.5a rc3, averaging between 40/50fps
2.4ghz quad core Q6600
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1.5gb ram

So what is the problem here, why is my second machine running better than my first, even tho I would say its worse with less ram and crap quad core ( BRINK doesnt even use half the cores lolz. ) fair my card is better but not by much. I want to play it on my first machine because my second machine has problems, the HDD is failing, the dvd drive is broke and my fan is about to stop working.

ooo also these FPS’s are with the lowest settings, if I have them on med, the game just decides to play like a slideshow.

We’re working closely with the major GPU vendors on further performance improvements. We’re definitely not done on that front.

Rather than working on improving Brink, everyone solving that matter should dedicate their time to posting in this thread instead. We’d like to hear the problem talked about rather than being solved. Get the most useful group of people and have them write a few pages on what’s wrong. We’d rather have that then the problem actually worked on. Most people would rather socialize about an issue than actually see it resolved, so I think overall that would make people happier sooner. We already have leading consumers suggesting that because we already paid for the game that nothing is being done since they weren’t personally addressed by Splash Damage for their particular issue.

Way to miss the point Auzner. People want to know that the problem is being worked on. Instead of hoping that SD is using their recources to solve the issue.

eh, what? you mean, like, we would rather talk about the problem than fixing it? not really. im sure you didnt mean it that way.

i would also really like it if theres more communication. most of us here are adults and some of us probably are technically sophisticated and could even help solving the problem?! i can only speak for myself, but i think splash damage fans are very dedicated to them and would at least try to help more actively.

Games are a bit more dependent upon video card than CPU and in some instances RAM. (As long as you have enough RAM, having extra doesn’t always correspond to a performance improvement). The HD 5770 is a good bit faster than the 5670, to the order of being 50-70% faster on average.

To have the exact specs that steam called for

ATI 5850 HD
Inte core l i7 2.8 gh, 2081 mhz 4core
win 7 64 bit
16 gb ddr3 ram
11.5a drivers

and have it unplayable?

might have come back to it to look for a patch in a couple of weeks IF I HAD SPECS THAT WERE MINIMAL OR UNSPECIFIED FOR GAME,
but being as how I had exact specs they required on day 1 and still couldn’t play

its uninstalled never to be installed again

and i will never buy (and encourage others to do the same) another product from SD or bethasda again

to bad , as this game looks amazing and i really want to like it.

Got something between 30-60 fps…
BUT not my GPU is at its limit … its the CPU that is all the time running at over 90% …
Time to get a new one?
