VERY poor ATI performances - what's the exact status on this matter?

Its your processor…

I was running an e8400 @ 4ghz + a 4870 and while running at 1360x768 I got about 40-50FPS.
I just got a sapphire 5850 toxic (for a good price) and im now running at 1680x1050 and im getting about 60FPS. Mind you, I disabled shadows, medium textures and some other things disabled as well.
Im also running:
Vista home premium 32-bit
4GB of RAM
11.5 drivers (no hotfix)

I installed the latest hotfix which is causing another issue now. Framerate didn’t improve at all btw.
Now whenever I fire a gun, my sound stutters as does my framerate. It’s not so bad when using rifles, but I really can’t use SMG’s now, if I start shooting my sound goes bonkers and my framerate drops to ~10.

Don’t think I posted my dxdiag yet, so let’s just throw that in as well for good measure.

I’m using 11.5a. Brink will run great for me for some period of time, and then my whole machine will lock up and I have to do a hard restart.

I have an ATI 4890. I’ve seen a lot of problems on here in the 4800 series.

If they don’t fix this in the patch today, i am uninstalling this game because it will be dead, sadly…

Oh, and the game also sometimes crashes when previewing customisation options since the latest RC.

I managed to put my fps into the interval of 30 to 140fps depending on the current map and my location in it as well as the action going down around me. It appears the biggest hit on fps happens when being at specific locations on specific maps. I recall the huge open area roughly in the center of Security Tower to put some heavy weight on fps.

I disabled shadows and lowered AA and AF among other things but I still can’t believe the huge difference in fps I am seeing especially when considering my setup. I hope this gets fixed soon.

I lol’d. Main menu without AO 75 fps… with AO 30 fps… it’s now even worse than it was before!

In the release notes:

“Improved graphical performance, especially when using Ambient Occlusion”

So, SD said that AMD is working on a driver fix, but I think it was justified to expect an improvement from this patch.

I haven’t played awfully lot today after the patch, but my performance went up significantly. It’s not perfect by any meant, but I could even turn some things on and still enjoy the game much more than before the patch.

its funny how these problems didnt get found in QA testing, and the fact that numerous other iD Tech4 games run perfectly on Ultra settings on the same system, and every ATI hotfix that has come out has done almost nothing in terms of performance
