Venice Max_GameState_Chars Exceeded Error Still Testing

EDIT: Got the Error with 57 Players on Sunday so we are close but not fixed yet, i will have to make some more changes to get rid of the error.

Ok, After Chavo One gave me Permission to Modify the map to Get Rid of this Nasty Little Error, And Several Tests I finally Got a Version that does not Get the Error.

So, For you Server Admins running More then 32 Player Slots you can now Once Again Enjoy Venice!!!

Changes to Stop the Error:

Made all the Lamps Normal Brushes instead of them being Misc_GameModels.

Got Rid of all the Corona’s.

Deleted the Music Files but left the Ambient Sounds.

Made the 3 Constructible MG’s Positions into Non-Constructibles.

Deleted Both CP’s.

Changed the Text in some of the Entities in order to Shorten the Chars being sent to Clients in the GameState String.


We (Bunker Gaming Community) are going to try adding Back a little at a time and Test to see how much we can get back in the map.

Anyway’s, here is the DL link for the PK3 that we successfully Tested Today with 55 Players on the Server.

EDIT: There is a phantom Wall near the Archway in this release and the Sandbags are not solid due to i left a spawnflag key in the entities, i am working on fixing both these for next Version.

Please Post here or on Bunker Forums if you get the Error or any other Problems with the map as this was a Decompile and i had to fix Everything to get it as close Back to the Original as possible.

Once again, outstanding work Jecoliah. I was playing it today with a 25v25, and it worked great. We went down to 2 minutes left before allies won, and I didn’t even really notice some of the changes. The map might not be exactly like the original, but it plays the same, looks the same, and is Venice. What else could you want?

I could modify more a lot without chaning the game source… scripting is really enough. But if you will make it looking like better, esp. light, maybe the sky etc. it would be nice…

As I said, you can spawn new spawns, it’s not an extra addition in the map :slight_smile:

Downloading new venices about 20 megabytes is not so comfortable in fact 8) But GL, I like the idea of map.

I don’t think you understand. This Project was ONLY to Fix the Max_GameState_Chars Exceeded Error.

Not to Modify the Map, as stated in the Original Post found here…

Read through the hole Topic to understand what we wanted to accomplish here.

I Do Not Intend to Modify the map Beyond Fixing the Error.

Venice is “Perfect” in its Original State but, unfortunately i had to Make changes to get rid of the error.

The Playability of the Map and the Overall Look is Intact.

Just wanted to Clarify this.

Also i want to Point out that after Hours of Research on this Error i have not seen One Single Post that states that anybody has Ever Fixed this Error in an ET map.

I Read a Great Deal of Posts on the Subject and people made A Lot of Speculation on the Cause and Fix for the Error but i Never found an Actual Solution until i made these modifications on the Venice Map.

I am currently Adding Back the Music and CP’s and am going to test that Version of the map soon.

My Final Thought on what causes the Error is That Maps with Escortable Vehicles Use A Lot of the String Data that is Being Streamed to Clients and Therefore other Entities such as Constructible’s Put the Map Over the GameState String (Chars within the String) Size Limit.

It’s not. Many textures are not looking correctly. If you looke carefully :expressionless: Then it’s all that could be modified. But I see you’r not going to do this, so don’t care :smiley:

Again, This is a Decompiled Map, due to Chavo One had a HD crash and Lost the Map Source.

So i had to Fix almost Every Single Texture due to they got all messed up during the Decompile.

So, i Fixed the Textures the Best i could to match the Original.

is venice_wcp is the new one and it is a public release now?
we play Venice since severall years and now with NQ but we dont encounter this problem with this map:Max_GameState_Chars Exceeded Error

must be cuz some have too many PK3 in their server/ftp/etmain who are not needed

Was going to test Version WCP (with command posts) but we got the error with the NE2 Version (with 57 players) which does not have the command post.

So No, WCP is not for public release, i am going to make a NE3 Version with additional changes that hopefully can support up to 64 Players without getting the error.

I am guessing that your server does not host up to 64 players, probably 32 players, am i right? Cause the Original Venice Final gets the error with as little as 40 players.

Anyway’s i am working on the new Version NE3 but i don’t have alot of free time this week, but when i finish we will be testing it on the Bunker1 Server and i will post the results here.

ok thanks
was testing it in our passwored server
so will not add it for the moment for the etstuffs site
we have for our main server 35 slots and we have other strange problem sometime (server restarting itself )
it was mainly with Saberpeak, Paris Bastille and Cathedral final

For a 35 Player Server you should use the Original Venice_Final, you should not get the Max_GameState_Chars Exceeded Error with that many players.

This error only really effects servers with 40+ players.

I don’t know why your server would restart on the maps you mentioned but you may want to post about it in a Forum specifically for the Mod your using on your server as this is most likely where you would find help with the problem your having.

I am still working on NE3, I have run into a problem that i have to figure out a solution for from modifying the Splines for the Boat in an attempt to further reduce the GameState String.

Don’t have much free time to deal with it but will have some free time this weekend to spend on it.

just FWIW the max_gamestate_chars error is also affected by things like sets cvars in your config, the length of your motd, and the number of .pk3 files on your server.

Yes, but those things are out of my control.

For instance Most maps do not get this error (Ever) with 64 players on the server so regardless of the things you mention it does not matter with most maps because of the way those maps were made.

I am attempting to make Venice one of those maps that Large Servers don’t have to worry about getting the error.

I have now Finished with Venice_NE3 Version and we will be testing it on our serves soon and once we get a Full 64 Players on to test it then i will post the results here.

I will make another version if needed but i really feel we are getting very close to getting this thing whooped!

Yes, my comment was just a general heads-up for admins who encounter this error. Reducing the requirements of the map is also an excellent step :smiley:

we use chavo_one’s another Venice map on an 40+8 man server (NQ1.1.1), many times full without any problem
